Surgeon Testimonial

Joseph C Moran
I first met Dr. Moran after my sister had had surgery. I was impressed with him right from the start. He is a surgeon - straight forward, no time to waste, get to the point - kind of guy. Since my first meeting with him, nothing has changed. I think he is an excellent surgeon, both my sister and I have had surgery by him without complications. His office staff is very knowledgable with the various procedures and they are very thorough. Before even setting a date, you have to go through a bunch of testing, meeting with a nutritionist and a psychologist even before they send everything to your insurance. The one thing I didn't like about Dr. Moran, and I feel awful saying this, but as I mentioned before, he's a surgeon. His bedside manner could be improved, but he is great at his job. And as my Grandmother once said, what does his bedside manner matter? I'm not going to bed with him. Dr. Moran is also the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Rex Hospital, and I felt completely safe in his hands.

I would rate Dr. Moran and his staff as excellent. I would give them a 100% approval rating. I have been very impressed with Dr. Moran, his staff and the staff at Rex Hospital.

I should point out that Dr. Moran works in Raleigh, NC, and I live in Charlotte, NC. The drive is a little under 3 hours, and I did have to go 6 times before my surgery. If I didn't feel completely, 100% happy with Dr. Moran, I would have found someone a lot closer to me in Charlotte.

Almost a year
on September 4, 2011 2:37 pm
In 25 days, it will be a year since my life changed for the better!

In the 11 months since my surgery, I have: lost 110lbs (and still counting), gained a new (existing of mostly essentials) wardrobe: donated 2 suitcases and over 5 trash bags of clothes to my mother or goodwill; found that I enjoy walking and exercise; attempted to complete a half marathon but learned that I should start with a 5k first.

I have found God and love the relationship that I have with Him.

I made it through summer in NC without being a total sweatball. I could even drive without the AC on or the windows open and still not be drenched.

I didn't make it to the pool this summer, due to lack of a bathing suit. I put on my last swimsuit and it fell right off - what a fantastick feeling. As was the feeling i had when I put on a pair of jeans I've been saving and they were too big! I couldn't justify spending money on a swimsuit when it wouldn't fit next year.

I'm so thankful to Dr. Moran and this new life that he has given me.

welcome back

After a 2 month hiatus, chocolate milk is back in my diet. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that my body will once again tolerate this food because it gives me additional protein and that chocolate flavor I've been missing.

The holidays came and went and I lost 6lbs over Christmas weekend. I was able to eat a little of everything I wanted, and even had a chocolate chip cookie and piece of calamari. The cookie did better than the calamari.

Now it's a new year, and I've started it out with a cold. I'm hoping to feel well enough to hit the gym this week (and I'm hoping all those people who signed up for new years have backed off). I miss the gym and am looking forward to getting back there.

Happy Sunday y'all!

In the three months since my surgery, I have lost 60lbs. In fact, on my 3 month anniversary, I lost exactly 60lbs...which was my goal.

What does this translate into in terms of inches?

On October 23 (almost 1 month after my surgery), my measurements were as follows:
Neck: 15.5"
Arms: 21.5"
Under the girls: 43"
Over the girls: 50"
Waist: 48"
Hips: 56.5"
Thighs: 31"
Calves: 21"

As of January 1, my measurements were as follows:
Neck: 14.5" (-1")
Arms: 19" (-2.5")
Under the girls: 39" (-4")
Over the girls: 44.5" (-5.5")
Waist: 42"(-6")
Hips: 51" (-5.5")
Thighs: 28.5" (-1.5")
Calves: 19" (-2")

A also went into the local Old Navy store this weekend and was able to actually fit into their clothes. It feels so good to know that I can now start shopping at regular stores and not just the plus size stores anymore.

It also feels amazing that for once, my new years resolutions didn't focus solely on food and exercise. Eating healthy and exercising are just part of my life now. I don't even have to think about it anymore! It's a great feeling!!!

Sidelined

Last friday I was sidelined from my normal routine. I developed bursitis in my knee and I tweaked a muscle in my back which in turn was pinching my sciatic nerve. I got muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory gel, and was told to take it easy.

With the temps here in the low teens, taking it easy was really easy. I just stayed in the house and didn't exercise at all.

The scale didn't like this one bit. It decided that I should be shown what happens when I don't go for my daily walks. It added a pound.

I was horrified. But didn't let it get me down.

Today is a new day and I started back up on my walking. After being gone for a week, I was surprised to see how easily I could just pick it back up at the same pace. I even decided to jog for a bit - maybe not my smartest move, but it got my heart rate up and it was something different. I didn't jog for long, but I was proud of myself.

And the scale this morning showed a loss which is always nice!

NSV!!!

I just happened to see a picture taken sometime in 2008 of me and the ex-boyfriend, so I was weighing in at my pre-surgery weight. It's just a head shot but after looking at the picture and then looking in the mirror, I can see that I've lost weight in my face - especially my double chin.

I'm so excited, I have a huge smile on my face right now!!!!
