Memorial Day Boredom
on May 31, 2010 2:42 pm
It has been a wonderfully relaxing day, but I have run into a huge problem - that probably wouldn't have affected me so much, had I not been watching Carnie Wilson on Dr Oz....

Today I have made VERY POOR eating choices.  No breakfast...ate 1/2 a cheeseburger and a few fries for lunch from McDonalds - I haven't done McD's since pre-surgery!  Then....then I got the bright idea to eat some malted milk balls from Harry & David's.  Now I am tired (took just less than a hour), I feel nauseated, I'm full and have a little bit of food making it's way back up my throat.  WHY would I even consider this a decent idea?  Am I bored?  Was I truly hungry?  Grrrr!

Wait, let me go back...the last two days I have made TERRIBLE eating choices.  I want to get back on track and lose more weight, I just feel like I'm in a rut.

6 months post-op
on February 7, 2010 9:43 am
Wow...what a ride!

The past six months have been incredible!  I still seem to stay full, but sometimes my brain tricks me into thinking I am hungry. Still have some problems with potatoes and bread (even though I try to only nibble a little bit) - they are too heavy and I get nauseated.

Ended up in the ER in Dec for horrible middle chest pressure and they chalked it up to increased stomach acid production - the doc was a little stumped and you could tell this from his "I'm not sure what it is, and can't really tell since you have altered your insides and they aren't like a typical person" comment.

I do very poorly with my vitamins - when I think about it heavily I am on top of it for about a week and there it goes again until I think, hey, I haven't had any vitamins in a while. LOL  I take Bariatric Advantage berry flavored MVI (two tabs a day), Bariatric lemon calcium citrate (two chews a day), B12 sublingual tabs 500mg (1 tab) daily, and a Bariatric Advantage omega 3 berry chew daily (these are like candy).  I'm also still doing Syntrax Nectar protein supplements twice daily...they are quite tasty.

I went through a period of about three months where I was losing hair like mad...my husband thought there was a small animal taking up residence in the shower.  Nope, just gobs of my hair.  I don't have any bald spots (believe me, I check this stuff out) but can tell it's more thin than normal when curling and brushing in the AM.  However, I think it's coming to a bit of an end...thank goodness!

I try to alternate between the elliptical and my Richard Simmons video (yes, I'm a dork, but I love his enthusiasm) every night.  Again, it's hit and miss, just depending on how my day is or if I worked late...yada yada yada.  But...I do try!  I can't wait until it's warm enough to open the pool...I want to swim!

Other than that, life is great!  The hardest part I have found in this whole journey, is just realizing you can't eat like you use to and food isn't everything.  I mean, yes, I'd love to sit down and eat a bag of Doritos, but I just can't!  Physically my pouch won't hold it and mentally I know it's a no no.

In six months I have gone from a size 26 pants to size 20 (and an occasional 18 if the fit is big) and in tops from a 3x to XL (approx 14-16).  This is so funny...my biggest worry is that I will lose my breasts...ha ha ha...and so far I've only gone down a bra size, so I'm optimistic. LOL

I enjoy shopping for clothes again...love going out...and am so glad I chose to have this procedure!

2 Weeks Post-Op
on August 5, 2009 7:31 pm
Happy Wednesday!

I am having the toughest time with protein!  I can't seem to get anywhere near 60 grams in my body.  I finally turned to some protien shots I found in WalMart and Rite Aid, but they are so nasty!  Between the smell and the taste....I just can't do it.  I've tried protein shakes and mixing the Unjury into my food, but same thing - horrid taste and smell!   If you have protein suggestions....HELP ME!

I am doing better with getting the liquids in, but could stand to drink a little more.  I am so worried about getting sick I take baby sips and bites of everything!

I don't know....I'm kind of in a funk right now.  I'm happy I had the surgery done and can't wait to see results in the weeks to come.  However, I have had a horrible time just getting foods, especially proteins, into me that it's too frustrating at times.  AAAHHH!

Thanks for listening to me rant!

4 Days Post-Op
on July 25, 2009 4:59 pm
I am four days post op and very happy with my decision to have the RNY procedure.  Was a little iffy right after surgery, but it was the hormones and all the change around me, or so that's what I am going to chalk it up to.

DId one day of clear liquids and now am on a two week full liquid diet.  Not too hard for me to follow.  I don't mind the fudgesicles, soup and yogurts, but once in a while I think a half piece of toast or a cracker would be nice...it will all come back in good time. LOL

Pretty much just lounging, recovering and trying to stay low key.  Made two quick trips to town this afternoon - very nice to get out, but just as nice to get back to my recliner, too.  LOL

Met a wonderful new friend on here, Gina - we had surgery the same day in the same hospital!  It's so nice to have someone to make the journey with.  She is a terrific person and I wish her much success!!!

3 Short Weeks....
on June 29, 2009 8:52 am
In three short weeks...yes, three.....my surgery will have been completed by this time.  Yea!  I am so so so excited and getting nervous!  I can't wait to get it over and done witht he move on with life.  I've chosen to only tell a select few people about the surgery, but my mother has gone ahead and told others (thanks mom)...but, I think I'm ok with it at this point.  I'm ready - ready to get in there, ready to get out of the hospital, ready to lose some weight!!!
