My Story

I have been overweight all my life and I’m so ready for that to change.   I have tried almost every diet and supplement out there, and nothing seems to work. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16. I wasn’t given any info from my doctor about it other than I have it. So I researched it on my own and think a lot of my problems with keeping weight off are attributed to that.  I have also recently developed blood pressure issues which stemmed from my pregnancy and 2 years later still hasn’t gone away. I’m 26, I should not be on BP meds!! So when my PCP asked if I ever thought about surgery, I knew it was time to do it. I have thought about it a lot, but worried about how I could afford it. With my insurance now, it isn’t a problem so I have nothing to lose but weight at this point!!
Although my insurance covers it 100%, there are a lot of hoops I have to jump through before I will be able to meet with a surgeon and schedule my surgery. So far I have gone to the bariatric surgery class, which is hosted by one of the surgeons and explains all three surgeries. I have done the NUT class, and gone to a support group meeting. I still have my psych and one-on-one NUT meeting to do, before I can meet with a surgeon and schedule a date. Right now I’m torn between the RNY and the sleeve, so I guess I have plenty of time before I make my final choice.

I know that WLS is not the easy way out like most people think and I’m ready to make the changes necessary to make WLS work for me. I’m hoping it won’t be too much longer before I get a date, because once I make my mind up about something, I’m ready to do it! The waiting is killing me!
