I made it!

I was soo nervous of complications or what not... but I made it with Flying Colors!
They put me to sleep and I woke up asking about my blood pressure and oxygen levels and more importantly if they opened me up.
All turned out well and in 3-4 hours after I was walking around the 7th Floor of Scripps Mercy Hospital.

Dry mouth sucked for the first day.  Until they replenished my fluids through IV.  After that I didnt drink much ....
Im home after 4 days, carefully monitoring my fluid intake and looking for protein supplements that pack a big punch in a small drink ... Kinda tough to find.

Everything else seems good...
Im not repulsed by food... In fact it smells delicious, but i can watch someone eat a bowl of spaghetti and a nice salad with some garlic bread like they are doing right now ...  and not want some.  Interesting ... Instead im having an ounce of muscle milk and feel just fine :-)

My incisions are small ... in fact they made my belly button kinda cute :-)  LOL

Everything else is so far so good .

Totally scared and nervous....

I have to lose 10 pounds before surgery and its less then a month away...

Im sure I can do it ..

Still scared of dying on the table... and also of the loose skin issue I will have when I lose all the weight.
Im not too happy about going back to wearing a t shirt in the pool ...

My Story

Hi!
I'm Zac. I am 35 years old Southern California native who has been struggling with obesity since I was a young.  I have finally come to a point where I am seriously considering Weight Loss Surgery.

Obesity has done a number on my body; and I cannot allow it to continue. From Diabetes, to High Blood Pressure and even a heart condition that we believe to be caused by Sleep Apnea.    It's amazing how deadly obesity seems when you are suddenly in the hospital because your heart is going a million miles an hour and your family and friends are looking at you with fear in their eyes, not knowing if this will be the last they see of me.

My doctor referred me to Kaiser's Bariatric Surgery Program but the waiting list was long, I was excited to start in 5/2009. So while I was waiting; in March of 2009, I decided to take on these (co-morbidities) of mine.  Paying close attention to my Lab Work, I decided to start dieting.   I started slowly;   my main focus was controlling my blood sugar. So my diet was strict at less . After 2 months my blood sugar was under control and my blood pressure was normal. Cholesterol has improved.

I have lost a total of 21lbs as of 07/06/2009 just with nutrition alone. I feel good! I plan on incorporating physical activity and I’m sure the results will be even better.    So why am I here?  Well, in the past I was successful in losing up to 100 lbs by exercising and an uneducated nutritional diet but keep in mind I was 18 years old at the time.  Obviously, I  did not keep it off.  While I seem to be doing pretty well on my diet now, I fear that I may not be able to keep it off or continue what I’m doing.
