Surgeon Testimonial

Clifford Deveney, M.D.
Dr. Deveney did a great job. He has tons of experience and even fixed a nasty scar I had from my gall bladder removal. Now my scar is just a little skinny line. I had my surgery done at OHSU and it was great. To be honest I don't remember much of my time there. They were very good about controlling my pain. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. He is not the most personable man but he is good and that is the most important thing.

Hi, my name is Connie and I am post op for 3 weeks.  I am doing fine.  I have more questions now though than before my surgery.   So, I am a single mother now of two (my third is older now and on his own), just recently divorced.  I am going back to school online.  Due to my new divorce I am moving next month to a smaller home that I can afford.  I am really looking forward to the move and start on my new life.  This has been a really rough year for me, as my mom, who was my very best friend and lived with me for the past four years died on her birthday which was Jan. 15th.  She really wanted to be here for the surgery and help me get through it, but she caught that pneumonia that is killing everyone (MSRA) and so I had my friends help me.  I am so grateful to my friends.  I can't even tell you how important it is to have support.  My ex-husband was NOT supportive.  I mean he didn't care one way or another and he certainly would not have been a good care giver.  I guess with the great loss of my mom, the loss of my husband is nothing.   If any of you have questions feel free to contact me and I will answer the best I can.

It's been awhile since I have been here.  Lot's going on.  I had my surgery May 16th 2008.  I have lost 33 pounds since then.  I am still in the recovery stage and since I have other conditions I think it is taking longer than normal.  My experience with the hospital and my surgeon wasgreat.  I now know what dumping is...wow...not fun.  But over all I am very happy I have done the surgery RNY.  I am very glad I didn't get the lap band for a multitude of reasons.   Honestly I hear so many problems with it and I really didn't want a bump under my skin that people would be asking about the rest of my life, or that I could feel constantly when I sleep on my stomach.  As far as dealing with my depression over my mom...I have been doing better, still cry every now and again.  I am also getting divorced and having to move next month which is not going to be fun.  I don't mind getting rid of the husband though...no depression on that end .  I would love to catch up with everyone.  I have lots of questions and am looking forward to seeing how my friends are doing.
Email me...I haven't heard from anyone since I dropped off the end of the earth...geeze...wonder why?

On this journey we all know how important it is to have a solid support system...well mine was my mom.  She is my best friend, she lives with me (for about 4 years now) and we just crack each other up everyday.  Originally she and my aunt moved up here (Washington) from Ca. because my aunt had cancer and my mom was taking care of her and working full time.  Well my aunt got too weak to be left alone and my mom couldn't afford not to work so they moved in with me.  A year later my aunt died (2005).  Well on Jan.15th 2008 (my mom's birthday) my mom died too.  Of course I am devastated, depressed and just plain miss my mom.

Tuesday Feb. 5th I have my appt. with the Nut and PA where we start my plan.  Then I have my pre-op appt., and then surgery.  Tuesday is going to be hard for me.  Mom and I were planning of making a day of it.  The hospital I have to use is 4 hours drive from me.  Mom was so looking forward to this for me.  Tuesday I will be going alone but I know my mom will be with me in spirit.

Anyway, I have a few friends who are going to be my support system now and emergency contact etc.  See my family consisted only of me, my aunt and my mom.

Friends are very important to me, thank God for the ones I have.  I would love to get in contact with anyone out there that has similiar experiences.

Having RNY instead of Lap Band
on November 16, 2007 3:45 pm
Okay, went to my orientation and have found out that because I have severe GERD that the better option for me would be the RNY.  So that is what I am going to get.  My insurance does cover it believe it or not with very little qualifications.  I qualify easily.  So, now I just need to get my psych. eval, NUT appt., pre-op appt., and if all goes well my surgery will then be scheduled.
Hoping all goes well at this point.

My Story

Date: Nov. 3, 2007

So far my story is this.  I am 5'3" and now weigh a whopping 265.  I have an appointment for oreintation on Nov. 12th.  This is the beginning of my journey.  I was always a thin person (105) even after my 3 children.  When I hit 35 I started ballooning at a rate of 30 pounds in a months or less time.  Dr. after Dr. said eat less, exercise more.  Ha!!!  You would think I am a moron the way they all talked to me.  Long story short.  Don't know why I gained so much but know I need to get of off.  I have Fibromyalgia, Epstein Barr and Lyme Disease too.  Walking is very painful let alone exercising.  I used to be an exercise addict.  I love it...just can't do it anymore.  Would love to be a size 3 again.  But would be happy at 7.  I am a little person normally.  That is all I have now.  Will update when I know more.  At this point I think I am going the Lap Band route.  Any words of wisdom are very welcome.
