Me? A Support Group Leader?
on July 5, 2010 12:41 am
I am officially taking the steps to start my own weight loss support group.  I am pretty excited about it!  I am going to talk to the local library and my gym about using their meeting room as a location for the support group meetings.  I also started the application process here on Obesity Help.com to be an OH support group leader.  I really hope it get approved!  I have so many ideas I want to implement and already have some guest speakers in mind.  Some of the girls I have already been casually meeting with and I have talked about what obstacles they are facing and what they need from a support group.  I am working on getting some strategies together for them individually to help them with those obstacles.  One things that keeps coming up is motivation.  That one is kind of interesting because everyone is so different and different things motivate different people!  What kinds of things motivate you to keep on track?

Clothing Swap in Bloomington, IL Sat July 3rd
on June 28, 2010 1:14 pm
I have a huge amount of clothing that I need to pass on to others so I figured I would have a clothing swap at my house Sat July 3rd at 10 am in Bloomington, IL. If you are interested just let me know and I will send you my address and contact information in a private email. The clothing I have to share is anywhere from a medium to size 28. Some of them are my old clothes I can't wear anymore and some are things I have gotten off Freecycle and just aren't my style. Feel free to bring all the stuff that you can't wear anymore or just come and pick up some new things. Of course all my clothes are ladies clothing (sorry fellas) and I have lots of purses and shoes (sizes 6 - 7.5 and some 8-10). I will have some WLS-friendly food available. I will be making protein mini donuts and will probably make some mini crustless quiche bits, as well as have some cheese, lunchmeat, and other high protein foods available. I will have those recipes available as well. Whatever doesn't get taken during the swap I will either take to my surgery centers clothing closet or if this goes well I will save them in my storage closet and have another clothing swap party next month! Just a note- I do live on the second floor so there is a flight of indoor stairs you will have to climb but we can help bring all the clothes up the stairs for you if you need help with that.

What: Clothing Swap
Where: my house in Bloomington, IL
When: Sat July 3rd, 2010 starting at 10 AM

Hope to see you there!

My Story

I'm a 29 year old mom of two boys.  Both my boys has autism and ADHD and while our life is crazy sometimes I adore them and think they are the most awesome kids ever (well, my best friends daughter is just as awesome as they are).  I have been overweight since I was a little kid.  I used to get picked on and even pushed around in elementary school for being fat.  I ended up becoming pretty tough and started to fight back and eventually the other kids left me alone.  I have always been one to have many acquantainces but few close friends.  I started this process in May 2009 and had my DS on Novemeber 4, 2009. So far have lost 150 in 7 months which is amazing!  I am THIS close to being under 200 pounds which is very exciting for me.  I am in the process of starting up a support group in my local area and I am really excited about how the planing is going so far.  I have a weight loss surgery/ weight loss blog at www.intuitionjuice.com and I also have a Mom blog where I talk about my awesome kids (the good and the bad) at www.geekmomblog.com.
