6 month mark
on June 16, 2009 7:05 am
I am at my 6 month surgery anniversary and have lost 66 lbs. unbelievable!!! what is hard to comprehend for me is the attention factor. Men are actually flirting with me and not ignoring that fat girl. i am also amazed at how i am now in an XL instead of a XXL clothing size. some size 20's fit.

If you live in MN or are interested in becoming one of my friends, please join.

thanks

Loretta

3 Months and feeling GREAT!!!
on March 10, 2009 9:55 am
I can't believe how fast time flies. I am currently down 52 pounds. What is really odd to me is that when I was at 274, I didn't think I was that big. Now that I am at 224, I feel like I am HUGE!!!  What really shows that I have lost weight is my clothes and how I am down 2 sizes so far.

My new goal is to actively exercise. Meaning more than once in a while. I am doing my best to not park next to doors when I go to stores, but when it is below zero, that all goes out the door.

2 months out
on February 16, 2009 9:46 am
Well, my two month anniversary is coming up on wednesday 2/18. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I am currently down 42 pounds. I had a 3 week period where i did not lose any weight then i lost 6 pounds this week. AMAZING!!

I am really excited because i am also down 2 pant sizes. I have gone through my closet and taken out the clothes that used to be snug on me but now are too big and put in new ones that fit me.

If you would like to chat, send me a message.

Recovery period almost over :(
on January 9, 2009 9:47 am
Well, I only have 2 more days before I go back to work. I have really enjoyed the time I have had off. I took a total of 3 weeks off for recovery and could have probably gone back after 2 for sure.

Upon release, Dr Jones stated I should be the poster child for this surgery. I showed no signs of even having the surgery. I was up walking 6 times a day, demanded the IV be taken out a day early and was getting along without much pain meds.

When I went to my first post op appointment, someone who had had surgery the two days before me was still having a problem keeping water down. My issue is still being very thirsty.  I am not consuming enough protein because  I am so thirsty I am not drinking the milk and only consuming two meals per day.

I guess, my point is, everyone reacts to this surgery differently. I have only been nauseous a couple of times and laying down usually takes care of it. I have not had dumping syndrome yet. I am trying to avoid that at all cost. I got sick once, it was my fault. I waited too long to eat and did not eat slow enough or chew thoroughly.

I forgot to add, I am now down 32 pounds since the start of the liquid diet. It is amazing to me. I could never had done this on my own.

That is all for now.  I try to update and upload pics at least once a month.

Surgery day looming
on December 16, 2008 9:45 am

I now have only 2 days to go before surgery. I am not as nervous about the surgery as I am about being able to drink the magnesium citrate tomorrow.  I have issues with gag reflex and taking liquid medicine. It stems from a childhood of taking penicillin.

I have signed up for all my short term disability benefits and have my fmla scheduled to end on 1/12. It will be awesome to have some time to recover from surgery, get used to eating the correct way and gain control of my house.

I will be posting as often as I can. I lost my modem during my recent move and I am hoping to recover it before I come back to work.

My Story

MY STORY

SO HERE IT GOES:

FOR MOST OF MY LIFE I HAVE BEEN AT VARYING DEGREES OF BEING OVERWEIGHT. I RECENTLY TURNED 40 AND DECIDED ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I NEVER CONSIDERED WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY BEFORE. I ALWAYS HAVE FELT I SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH CONTROL TO LOSE THE WEIGHT ON MY OWN. AFTER TURNING 40, I REALIZED I COULD NOT DO IT ON MY OWN THAT I NEED HELP.

MY MOM HAD HER STOMACH STAPLED WHEN I WAS 15, AND IT WAS A VERY TRYING TIME FOR OUR FAMILY. I REMEMBER A LOT OF THE THINGS SHE WENT THROUGH AND ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS SOME PEOPLE HAD SAID ABOUT HER. THE THINGS THEY HAD IMPLIED ABOUT HER BECAUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME, SHE ACTUALLY FELT GOOD ABOUT HERSELF.

IT TOOK A LOT OF RESEARCH AND THOUGHT FOR ME TO COME TO THIS DECISION. I WAS GOING TO HAVE THE LAP BAND PROCEDURE DONE, BUT SINCE GOING TO 2 DIFFERENT SEMINARS, I DECIDED THE RNY WOULD BE BEST FOR ME. WHEN TALKING TO MY PRIMARY DOCTOR, HE WAS IMPRESSED AT THE AMOUNT OF TIME I PUT INTO THE RESEARCH.

I AM NOT SCARED OF THE SURGERY ITSELF OR THE SIDE EFFECTS, I AM MORE CONCERNED ONCE I  LOSE THE WEIGHT, ALL THE LOOSE SKIN AND IF I WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY TO CORRECT IT.

SO, HERE IS TO ME AND ALL THE OTHER BRAVE PEOPLE WILLING TO TAKE THE STEPS NECCESARY TO BE HEALTHY.
