Surgery Date
on November 18, 2008 8:02 am

I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AND MY SURGERY HAS BEEN SCHEDULED!!! :O YAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

I AM SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY DECEMBER 18TH. I DON'T KNOW IF I AM MORE EXCITED ABOUT THE TIME OFF WITH MY FAMILY OR THE SURGERY.

I AM NOT EVEN CONCERNED ABOUT IT HAPPENING BEFORE CHRISTMAS. I AM JUST EXCITED I HAVE FINALLY BEEN APPROVED AND AM ABLE TO HAVE IT. IT HAS BEEN A VERY LONG ROAD.

IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME REGARDING MY LONG ROAD,I AM INTERESTED IN CORRESPONDING WITH ANYONE.

MY INSURANCE IS AETNA SELECT CARE. IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE THIS INSURANCE AND WOULD LIKE SOME ADVISE ON HOW TO PROCEED WITH BARIATRIC SURGERY, I AM YOUR GIRL!!!

3 out of 4
on August 1, 2008 7:33 pm
I finally read all of the paperwork and found out what i needed to do to qualify for surgery. I will be attending my 3 of 4 visits to the nutritionist and I have to redo my visit to the psychiatrist. Hopefully, when all of this is done, I will find out by October if Aetna has accepted me for surgery.

Time is really of the essence for me because of my job. I don't want to be gone when we are busy or miss an opportunity for job advancement. Both of which are coming up.

I guess all in all, my advice would be: Before you have your paperwork submitted, make sure you have completed every requirement your insurance requires. Had i read all of the paperwork they sent me, i would not have overlooked the nutritionist part and i probably would have had surgery by now.

Good luck to all of you that are still in the process, and good luck to everyone that has had the surgery

The last visit looming
on January 11, 2008 4:53 am
I currently have my last visit to my dr before submitting the paperwork for my appeal. I wish I would have gotten some feedback before I started off. I had asked on the blog what to expect, and one of the things was I should have contacted my insurance company to get the list of things I needed to accomplish in the 90 days. I am not feeling that confident about the appeal process.

I will update when my appeal letter comes through. If I get denied again, I will just keep trying.

DENIED!!!!
on October 19, 2007 7:30 am
All of my paperwork was submitted to my insurance company and I have been declined. I talked to Nurse Dave and he told me all of the things I would have to do before they could file an appeal. It amounts to 4 visits within 90 days to my primary doctor about my weightloss efforts.

I was hoping to have surgery in early January due to the type of work I do. It is our slow time and being off work for 3 weeks would be easier on my team. Now it is looking closer to February. I will keep you posted on what I find out.

I ran into a friend I lost track of last week. She had weight loss surgery and looks fabulous! She was 395 pounds, size 32 and is down to a size 16 in just 7 months. I was getting excited about the surgery and then felt so let down by the letter. I still have to stay positive and keep trying.

Thanks for reading my post.

One more appointment to go
on September 27, 2007 9:42 am
I received a call from nurse David, telling me they can submit my paperwork to my insurance company once I have my last appointment with the doctor. My appointment is on 10/2. He told me it takes about 2 weeks to get the results. I should then be able to set my appointment for surgery.  Wish me luck!!

My Story

MY STORY

SO HERE IT GOES:

FOR MOST OF MY LIFE I HAVE BEEN AT VARYING DEGREES OF BEING OVERWEIGHT. I RECENTLY TURNED 40 AND DECIDED ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I NEVER CONSIDERED WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY BEFORE. I ALWAYS HAVE FELT I SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH CONTROL TO LOSE THE WEIGHT ON MY OWN. AFTER TURNING 40, I REALIZED I COULD NOT DO IT ON MY OWN THAT I NEED HELP.

MY MOM HAD HER STOMACH STAPLED WHEN I WAS 15, AND IT WAS A VERY TRYING TIME FOR OUR FAMILY. I REMEMBER A LOT OF THE THINGS SHE WENT THROUGH AND ALL THE HORRIBLE THINGS SOME PEOPLE HAD SAID ABOUT HER. THE THINGS THEY HAD IMPLIED ABOUT HER BECAUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME, SHE ACTUALLY FELT GOOD ABOUT HERSELF.

IT TOOK A LOT OF RESEARCH AND THOUGHT FOR ME TO COME TO THIS DECISION. I WAS GOING TO HAVE THE LAP BAND PROCEDURE DONE, BUT SINCE GOING TO 2 DIFFERENT SEMINARS, I DECIDED THE RNY WOULD BE BEST FOR ME. WHEN TALKING TO MY PRIMARY DOCTOR, HE WAS IMPRESSED AT THE AMOUNT OF TIME I PUT INTO THE RESEARCH.

I AM NOT SCARED OF THE SURGERY ITSELF OR THE SIDE EFFECTS, I AM MORE CONCERNED ONCE I  LOSE THE WEIGHT, ALL THE LOOSE SKIN AND IF I WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY TO CORRECT IT.

SO, HERE IS TO ME AND ALL THE OTHER BRAVE PEOPLE WILLING TO TAKE THE STEPS NECCESARY TO BE HEALTHY.
