Surgeon Testimonial

Dennis C. Smith, Jr., MD, FACS
My first impression of Dr. Smith was...\"wow he's quiet, and very serious.\" Over time, we warmed up to eachother and he seemed to relax a little. The staff is very helpful and curteous and will jump through hoops for you as long as you handle your part. Dr. Smith is very big on after care, so if there are any potential patients that are reading this should know before they make this commitment. If you are not serious about change, dont bother stopping at his office! Over all, working with Dr. Smith has been a pleasant experience and I would use him again if I had to do it over.

Hello OH! Im a 28 year old mother of 2 wonderful children ages 2 and 5, and wife to the best husband I could ask for. I have been struggling with my weight every since the birth of my first child back in 2003. I have gained 70+ since my first child and have tried almost everything under the sun to get it off. After a long battle with thyroid disease, I'm moving forward with my final attempt at weightloss. I say final because I know this is the end of the road for me, and I'm ready to make a change. I'm ready to be a better Mom to my children and a better wife to my husband. This is it, I'm ready to start living my life! Wish me luck!

1 year ago today!!!
on August 21, 2009 12:05 pm
OMG! Where do I start? I can't describe the feeling that I'm feeling right now. I feel like I'm on top of the world right now. A year ago today I started on my journey. It has not been an easy one, and at times I found myself being depressed or down because I was not moving as fast as others. Part of it is my fault, I really didnt put in the work (exercise) like I should. I had really good intenitons, and sometimes would do really well, and other times I would do nothing at all. I'm sure if I had gotten in my protien, water and exercise like I should have, I would be in wonderland by now. Oh well, water under the bridge. Today is a new day and I finally feel the joy and excitement that weight loss is suppose to bring! My blood pressure is normal, 117/68 which even my doctor cant believe, not sure of the inches that I lost, but I was in a 22/24 bottom and 2x/3x top before surgery and now in a 14 bottom and 10/12 top, and down 82 pounds! I'm so thankful for this day...if I had it to do again, I would in a New York minute!

3 weeks...
on September 18, 2008 9:48 am
Well it's been 3 weeks...can't say it's been easy, but it's getting better. I have only lost 17 pounds since surgery. I know 17 pounds is good, but I thought I would have lost more by now. I guess if I had been excercising more, I would have lost but I just don't have the energy. Well, I'm going to try to step it up this week and see if I can make 20 by my 4th week. Here goes nothing!

I week out, feeling fine physically...but kinda down...
on August 28, 2008 10:17 am
Well, I made it...it's a been a week since my VSG and I must admit I feel pretty good physically. Mentally is another story. I feel so down, and I don't know why...I can't explain it. I dont know what to do about it. I guess I should  be happy, I did loose 12 pounds...but still feel like crap on the inside. Well, just wanted to stop in for an update, hopefully things will get better.

Update

I had my surgery with Dr. Smith on Aug. 21, and it was uneventful. Everything went well, and I'm recouperating just fine. I'm so blessed to have had this surgery for more than one reason. During the operation, Dr. Smith found a growth in my stomach, and being that I have a history of cancer, he thought best to remove it. There is no telling what that growth might have turned into in time, I'm glad he saw it and removed it! While in the hospital, I was almost pain free...it was amazing. The only time I used the pain meds was before I got up to stroll the halls. Other than that, I never touched the stuff...haven't used any at home either! I did experience some nausea while in the hospital, but since I've been home none at all. I have not vomited, nor am I looking forward to it. I can pretty much tell when I'm full. The only thing I'm having trouble with is getting in all the fluids! It seems so impossible with taking baby sips, I know I'll get there soon. I have even lost a few pounds since surgery, 9 to be exact! I'm really looking forward to the soft stage, I want some tunafish, but dont want it drippy! Well that's about all that's going on with me now, I will update as I move along.

Bad day Day 3 of liquids and then som
on August 20, 2008 3:58 pm
I promised I would update on my temp and the PICC line. Well I must say that the PICC line was a cakewalk. The only thing that bothered me was the Lidocane they used to numb my arm before inserting the PICC. It was just a sting followed by a little burn. After that, I felt slight pressure, and it was in. It took all of five or ten minutes to get it in, and about 30 mins prep.

I'm still running a low temp around 99.3-99.8. I have had two cups of Theraflu, and have been taking Tylenol. I'm going to continue to do this tonight, and hopefully tomorrow what ever it is will go back to where it came from. I started my bowel prep, not working quite yet, but hopefully I wont be all night! LOL Anyhow guys, please pay for me, that this sickness or virus will pass so I can continue on as scheduled tommorow.
