Surgeon Testimonial

William S. Peters
My first impression of Dr. Peters was a very good one. He is very understanding and compassionate and truly cares about the well being of his patients. His wife Robbie (nurse and office manager) is just as caring. They make a wonderful team. They are easy to talk to and are very down to earth.

Dr. Peters is very experienced and makes you feel confident in his abilities as a skilled surgeon. He discussed all of the weight loss surgeries to me and together we decided that the DS was the best choice for me. He explains all of the risks and makes sure that you understand about the choices you are making.

I traveled all the way from Florida to Scranton, PA. to be able to have my surgery performed by Dr. Peters and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I definitely recommend Dr. Peters and I just wish that I was closer so I could have that closer interaction as I progress with my weight loss. I stay updated and in contact with them by phone calls but I truly miss the in person interaction.

My overall rating of Dr. Peters is EXCELLENT!
I am proud to say that he is my surgeon!

Hello,
Thanks for stopping by. My name is Renee. I am married and have one son, he is 22. I live in Central Florida. I was a self-pay patient since my insurance excludes any type of weight loss surgery.

I did a lot of researching of the different types of weight loss surgery and once I learned about the Duodenal Switch, I knew it was the best choice for me. I encourage everyone considering having surgery to extensively do your research and make an informed decision. You are making a decision that will affect the rest of your life. The surgery itself is just an event that comes and goes rather quickly. The lifestyle that comes after surgery is forever!

I had my consultation with Dr. William S. Peters in Scranton, Pennsylvania on October 18, 2007, I knew then that he was my choice in surgeons. My surgery was January 28, 2008.

8 Month Update
on September 28, 2008 7:23 pm
Hi Guys!

Today marks 8 months since having my DS. My current weight is 171, I'm down 92 pounds from my starting weight of 263. My weight loss has really slowed down but I seem to still be losing inches and my body continues to change.

I originally set a goal for myself of 140 lbs. I know that to reach that goal it's going to really take a lot of effort on my part to get there. I'll admit that at first I was feeling discouraged once my weight loss slowed down. But I've done a lot of soul searching and realized just how far I've come with my DS. I feel sooooo good. I have more energy than I have had in years. I am prescription med free! I've realized that I most likely will never be a size 4 and that's ok by me.  I've not put forth much effort in losing these 92 pounds and I'm very happy with my results thus far. I am willing to increase my exercise and I'm trying hard to stay aware of the carbs. I'm just going to see where the next few months take me.

Thank you to all of you that freely give your support, knowledge, advice and encouragement. It means the world to me.

I've added my before and after pic. My current jean size is a 10...that still blows my mind. And as always....I LOVE MY DS!!!

7 Month Update
on August 28, 2008 10:42 am
Today marks 7 months since my surgery. It was a slower month for me as far as actual weight loss. I lost 4 pounds. I can also tell that I've lost inches. I've been buying clothes that are too small and I try them on often to see how they fit. Gradually they are fitting better and better!

My weight today is 175 lbs. Down from 263. I've lost 88 pounds and my percentage is 71.5%. I feel fantastic and I look forward to trying to continue on to my goal. Thanks to all of you for your support and valuable information. Still LOVING MY DS

6 Month Update
on July 27, 2008 6:56 pm
Just a quick update on me. It is now 6 months since having the DS. I have lost 84 pounds. Started out at 263 and today weighed in at 179. That is 68% EWL. I feel fantastic and I couldn't be happier. I am going for my labs tomorrow and I'll update about them once I get results. I am so thankful for being a part of this forum. I have made some wonderful friends and I can't begin to tell you how much I have learned. Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement.

STILL LOVING MY DS

I found another pre-op picture and added it for comparison.

5 Month Update
on June 28, 2008 1:58 pm

It’s been 5 months since my DS and life is good! I feel so lucky and so blessed that I was able to have this wonderful surgery and for being complication free. Regaining my health has been the most important thing to me, but feeling good about myself is ranking up there pretty high as well.  I LOVE my DS!

At 5 months out I have lost 73 pounds. This morning I weighed in at 190. That puts me at 59.3 % lost. The loss for this month was not as high as the previous months but I’m taking every pound of it! I’ve increased my activity but I’m fighting with keeping my carbs low. I do pretty well but I’m only human and sometimes I don’t always make the best choice. I know better than to totally exclude carbs from my diet. If I’m told I can’t have this or that, I’ll break my neck to get it. What I’m learning with my DS is that I can have the things that used to be considered forbidden in moderation and my DS keeps right on working. It’s finding that balance that makes it so much easier for me personally. I LOVE my DS!

I’m still feeling great and I have no food intolerances. I have added probiotics to my daily vitamin regimen and they seem to be helping with BM smells. If there is one thing I regret it’s that I didn’t have this surgery many years ago. So, if you are one of the pre-ops and you’re riding the fence on trying to decide if you should take the plunge…..I say, “Go for it!”

Did I mention I LOVE my DS???

4 Month Update And Onderland!
on May 28, 2008 2:12 pm
I can't believe another month has clicked by and as of today I am 4 months out from my surgery. I lost an additional 12 pounds this month and that brings my total to 65 lbs. My weight today is at 198 down from 263 the day of surgery. It feels so good to be in Onderland! I just can't believe how effortless this has been. My DS has been a miracle to me. I'm wearing size 16's at present, down from a 3x top and 22w pants.

I eat lots of protein, a few veggies and occasional carbs when I want to.  I don't have room for many carbs at a meal so I treat myself once in awhile to something sweet. On those days I consider myself like LeaAnn and I'm riding my DS with the brakes on!!!!

I feel fantastic, I sleep like a baby and I'm starting to gain some self-confidence. I had become pretty much a hermit at my heighest weight and I'm happy to say that I've started back actually participating in life again. It feels so good!

I come here everyday to continue to gain support and knowledge. I learn something new everyday. I get excited every time new people find their way to us and want to learn more about the DS.
Thank you all for guiding me along and in sharing my new life with me!!! I love you guys!
