I just got this
message from her
DH:
Robyn came through
her surgery just
fine. She had one
minor complication.
Due to her hernia,
they were unable to
do the laproscopic
type and had to do
the open. The
doctor said that
since her hernia was
so large it had
pushed her stomach
up and caused it to
toughen. This puts
her at an increased
risk of developing a
leak.
Please keep her in
your thoughts and
prayers. Thanks so
much!
Nine Days Without Power Makes Robyn a Dull Girl Somehow Hurricane Ike managed to blow it's way all the way up to Ohio on Sunday, September 14th. The wind blew for most of the afternoon, at speeds of 80 mph at some points. My darling Scott was on the golf course, but managed to make it home safely. The entire house shook on it's foundation several times, scaring the living crap out of me and the dogs. One of our extremely tall maple trees split in half and fell into the street. It was an absolutely crazy day. Around 2 pm the power went out. I am used to the power going out and coming back in within 2-3 hours. Well, 2-3 hours passed and still no power. 2-3 days passed and still no power. 4, 5, 6 ,7 ,8 days passed and still no power. At 8 pm of day 9, the power finally returned. I have never in my life lived through that many days without power.
Eating was a tough challenge. We lost the entire contents of our fridge and freezer, and the electric stove was of no use. We ate out more times than I would have liked, and picking the lunchmeat off of the sandwich got to be a mainstay. I ate more chili than I ever wanted to in a lifetime.
I managed to read five books during our outage, and they were:
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks
A Thousand Tomorrows by Karen Kingsbury
Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner
A Map of the World by Jane Hamilton
I had planned on reading lots during my time off work, and finally got around to it, albeit forced!
On the weight loss front, I had a meeting with my Nut last week, and that went well. I am cleared to start eating a wider variety of foods, and within the next couple of weeks can begin to eat raw fruits and veggies. I am so looking forward to some salad.
The first few weeks after surgery were terrifying, and plain hard to get through. My hope is that my weight loss will cause me to gain a more positive attitude. I had to go back to work yesterday, and that has tired me out, but I am also glad to see all of my friends again, and get back in the real world.
I have my next surgeon appt on Thursday, October 16th, where I will get my next official weigh-in. I hope to have good news to share!
