Surgeon Testimonial

Keith Kim, M.D.
Right away from the first info session, I thought Dr. Kim was a nice guy who knew his field very well.rnrnHe seemed compassionate about helping those with weight issues overcome their struggle by helping provide them with a tool to make it happen.rnrnI do wish that we were able to meet with Dr. Kim a little earlier in the process, but my date was moved up, so I was an unusual case as far as meeting him. Plus, I know you have every opportunity to meet him at every info session as he is there every Wednesday. Dr. Kim placed extreme emphasis on following the eating plan and keeping up with support groups as it completely immerses your life with information on how to work your tool. The office stresses that brain surgery isn't done, but just bariatric surgery. Overall, I've been very happy with my experience, and look forward to the many meetings/appt I will have with him and his staff in the future!

Wednesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~JudyAnne~

6 months..
on August 19, 2008 10:09 pm
Just at 6 months out...and I feel great!

This month was only a 9 pound weight loss month, and I will update this again with my measurements, but I know I'm still losing pounds and inches so I'm excited.  I am finding that its easier to eat more of the "not so good for you" foods, so I am needing to try and make a no-fail environment for me.  I also need to get back into the gym more regularly since I haven't been working out regularly and that might help the weight loss.

I'm definitely seeing areas where I'm gonna need some PS after I'm done with all this.

Oh, and for the first time in my life, I am in a relationship with an awesome person.  I truly hope it works out...he's very quick to tell me he likes me for me, and thinks I'm doing wonderful things for myself.  He has the two most adorable kids also...

so...89 pounds down...11 till 100, so I'm hoping I'll hit that in the next 3-4 weeks, and we'll see how this new dating and relationship thing goes.

*here's my edit...I'm down 90...but haven't weighed this week yet...and down 49.25 inches!!!  from a 26 to a 16/18, I'm loving it*

5 month update
on July 21, 2008 7:51 pm

Time for my 5 month update...

Down..80 pounds!!  My next goal is to hit 100 down.  Only 20 until then!  It's crazy to think about that!

I lost another 4 or 5 in. this past month.  I'm getting back on track with my eating and working out since being gone for a wedding last week.  Let me tell you, it's so different having people give me attention...it's a good different though.

I've gone from a size 26 to size 16W in dresses, normal misses sizes XL in tops(not t-shirts)...XXL t-shirts to L in t-shirts, 26 pants to around an 18 or 20.  I'm pretty happy with that...but apparently, I'll be able to pop some babies out later with these hips of mine!

Anyhow, I have to say life is good.  I'm just starting to realize what a prison I was in with the body I had before and I'm embarrassed that I put myself and my body through that.  I know it will never be the way a 25 year old body is supposed to be, but I'm thankful I've gotten this chance to be healthier, and hopefully one day, I'll be able to share my health and new habits with special ones in my life.

4 months plus 5...
on June 25, 2008 7:24 am
June 20th marked 4 months since surgery.  I'm glad to say that I'm currently 74 pounds down and only 3 away from 50% EWL!!!

That's not to say that I've been doing everything correctly.  My 4 pounds lost this week I attribute to mostly being sick and not feeling that great.  I actually feel I ate crappier food and couldn't satisfy my cravings because I couldn't taste much, but I also didn't eat as much.  So little food and when I did eat, it probably wasn't the best.

I've been struggling with seeing my bad habits come back into my life...although it is nothing like it was.  I would say not even 10% of what it was.  Having the tool makes it a lot easier to tell myself I don't need it.  I'm going to try and use these 4 pounds I lost as a point to start again and do the right things.

As far as measurements, I've lost close to 37 in.  Here's how it breaks down.

3 months post op
on May 20, 2008 1:05 pm
Today I'm exactly 3 months post op...and I couldn't be happier.

First...I'm down to 252 pounds which is 62 total, and 46 since surgery.  I'm no longer considered Extremely Obese or Morbidly Obese, I'm just obese now.  I never thought I'd be that excited about that...but I will be just "overweight" soon.

Some NSV's...people are finally noticing me.  And it might be just the fact that I'm more open to people since I'm more confident.  I've dropped from a size 26 to a 20 in 3 months, and I could stand to have a couple 18's in some things, but definitely in 20s from most places.  Even a Gap skirt fits me and I've never wore clothes from the Gap before.

I'm so excited to say I only have 38 more pounds until I hit 100, and I feel I can easily do that before next school year.  I've been doing ok with exercise.  Mostly getting my minutes in in a big chunk rather than a daily thing, but I know once school gets done, I'll be better at that.  But I am going to get back in it this week.

On a non-surgery/weight loss note, I'm moving this weekend.  I have to move back home for a bit a least because I don't have a 3rd roommate for the house my cousin owns that I was going to rent, so hopefully in the next month or so, I can find one.  I want that master bed and bath...really...I want the bath the most!  Anyhow...

I love the fact that I did this for me!  I'm just anxious and what's to come.  I'll add some more updated pics in a bit...

11 wks...I'll post again at 12
on May 7, 2008 12:05 pm
I was going to wait until 12 weeks out...3 months, but I couldn't because of the milestone I hit...

I have less than 100 to lose until my goal!!!  It's nice how a double digit number is way nicer to hear than a triple!

I'm 55 down since 1/4 and down 39 since surgery which is avg. 13 pounds a month.  The past three weeks I've lost 7 pounds which is a bit sad...but I'm going back to basics on eating so I can push those out.  It'd be nice to lose 5 more by the end of May so I still have time...

My goal is my remaining 45 pounds till I hit 100 by August.  That's when school starts back up and the kids are excited to see how things are different.

Anyways...I'll be glad when summer is here and I don't have to teach or grade papers for a while...I can do my workouts whenever and not be pressed for time in the evening.  Anyhow...more to come next week on the official 3 monther...

My Story

Here's my story...

Born and raised in Oviedo, FL, where have been priviledged enough to attend Lutheran private schools my whole life.  My family consists of Mom, Dad, a couple half-siblings, and my brother and sister Jon and Sam.  Weight problems have been a part of my mother's side of the family for as long as I can remember.  All I remember is wearing a 16 in 8th grade...wow.

Being overweight has hindered me going out and meeting new people, but I realize now that there's so much more to a person than looks...and I'm a pretty awesome girl.

That's besides the point.  Here's to February being my new "birthday" !
I'm pressing on...
