Surgeon Testimonial

Hilario Juarez M.D.
My first impression on Dr Juarez was \"hmmm, I'm not sure\" because we didn't have a very long first visit or consult. His staff, however, was the best. Very friendly and helpful and from all of the input I've heard from others I'm sure I'll love him!rnrnI'll write more after surgery.rnrn~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~rnrnOk it's after surgery... I met with him again right before surgery and he was very nice. The 2 week visit went well too. I think he's just a man of few words. Not overly talkative but tells you what you need to know. He's real nice and very knowledgable about what he's doing.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
Before wls I always hid or declined going places because I didnt want to be out in public. I didnt like seeing myself in the mirror or in pictures, I was held back from doing a lot of things in my life. My daughter would tell me she wanted me thin and that would just break my heart. Being of poor health, my doctor told me if I didnt lose the weight I wouldnt see my child grow up. Yet still I couldnt get it off. WLS has given me hope for my life again.

Ann- Boy, do I know about the tricky insurance programs. I too am disabled, and the first thing that you need to do is find out which of your policies is primary. Call Medicare directly and ask (or ask your other provider). I would guess that your other insurance is primary since your doctor wrote to them originally. When you find that out, I would be on the telephone to which ever is primary and bug them to death. I am not advocating being rude, but rather just be persistant! Do not hang up until they explain what information they need to make a decision in your favor. Be sure to take notes as you and they talk. Then, communicate what is missing to your doctor and make sure that he writes that up and amends his original document. You may telephone your local SSDI representative and get them to advocate for you. You need to take the bull by the horns-if you want this, then fight for it!!!!! Make sure to let me know about the results. Good luck, you are taking on a very powerful opponent that needs to know how the surgery will be to their benefit. Thanks. sue smith

Past ONE YEAR and doin' great!
on January 14, 2008 12:44 pm
I made it past my 'Birth Date' and am feeling better than I ever have.
I am happy to wave goodbye to 2007, however, and am looking forward to a great 2008. There were just too many things that really hurt last year so I'm ready to move on and see more smiles!

I've lost 71lbs so far with only a few more to go to reach my all time goal of 130lbs. Wooo! I cant even believe I'm this close. I know I could have reached it by now if I would have been more strict on the exercise part of it all. shhhhh... noone tell Dr Juarez. lol

I vow to do much better this year in that area.

Six Months and Smiling!
on June 11, 2007 1:01 pm
Well, I made it to seven months post op and am feeling great. I know I havent been on here lately but that's because I have been dealing with the loss of my brother and it's left me not wanting to do a lot of what I used to do. I'm getting by slowly and I'm sure I'll be back to normal (what ever that is, haha) soon.

Anyhow, with all thats been going on I still managed to lose 63 lbs so far. That's going pretty slow but at least it's going. I have 40lbs to go and I'll be as happy as a clam. Hmmm, clams... now I've gone and done it, I'm hungry. lol time for lunch I guess.  Dr. Juarez doesn't seem all that excited about my low weight loss but I guess he's used to people losing drastically right away or something. I know my body and this is the norm for me. I really have a tough time losing, even with surgery I guess so any loss is exciting for me.

Well, that's about it for now. I'm off to post some new pics so check them out. I'll try to get on here more often. Bless you all and take care.

YAY! Good News at 2 Month Visit
on January 14, 2007 11:54 am

I went to my 2 month visit with Dr. Juarez and besides getting to meet a very nice woman whom I met on OH first (PWright), I got the good news that I'm officially down 31 lbs. YAY! Woohoo!! Talk about a good day. I'm still eating carefully because of the ulcer but it's not a bother at all. I'm feeling good and losing weight steadily and that's what matters. :)

I also saw Dr. Juarez on the Arizona Morning News Show the other day with 2 patients of his that have lost a lot of weight and are three years out. They look fantastic! It was neat seeing my surgeon sitting there, hehe. He sure is a man of few words but he's a good doc.

Holiday's Done...
on January 2, 2007 10:56 am
Woohoo, made it through the holidays. YAY! Ready for 2007 and all it has to offer. I'm looking and feeling better and love watching that weight drop. I'm down under 200lbs now according to my home scale, I havent been below that mark in forever. YAY again.  What a great feeling!  My next doctors visit is Jan 8th so I'll post my exact weight loss then but for now....I'm going with my scale. lol

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a fun filled New Years eve.  I send you all Blessings and Happy and Healthy Vibes for the New Year.

On The Right Track
on December 21, 2006 8:29 pm

Things are looking up. I've been doing really well lately considering what I've been through. I'm back on track losing weight again, down 23lbs now. YAY! And I'm eating without getting sick, no other side effects to speak of either. I'm so happy I could just... well I'm happy about it anyhow.

My doctors have gotten my medication figured out so that it doesn't make me sick anymore so that's a good thing. Although taking them still is a chore since I have to chop them up to swallow some of them and that's gross tasting. But it's a small price to pay to stay healthy.

I'm starting to feel different in my clothes already which is really cool! Things fit differently and that gets me excited. haha. It's really amazing what a loose fitting shirt or baggy pants can do for your self image isnt it?!

My Story

change of life blinkie

WOW! My story... Hmmm, where do I start?!

Okay well I'm 43 years old, I live in Arizona with my wonderful fiance Ron, his daughter Rosalynn and my daughter Larissa. I am a stay home mom. I used to work as an Xray Tech but a heart attack and the damage it left me with put a stop to that. So now I count one of my blessings as being able to be home to take part in the lives of my family more.

I've been researching having WLS for over 2+ years and am finally ready to take the leap. My surgery date is November 8th, 2006 and I am sooooo ready for this. I've gone to Life Skills classes, Therapy sessions, Seminars, WLS classes, joined support groups, etc. I'm ready for my life change and I am prepared to meet it head on!

I've met many wonderful people along the way and I hope to meet many more as I continue on my weight loss journey. If you'd like to become friends please contact me. Perhaps we can support each other and become great pals.  :)
