Surgeon Testimonial

Elmer L. Valin, M.D.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Valin and his staff. He has the convenience of having the Nurtitionist, Nurse(who is also his wife) and Psych Evaluations in the same office. Everyone is very helpful. I am coming from RI, which is a 2 hour ride for me. The girls in the office did everything the possibly could to cut down on trips for me. They managed to get all of my appointments into just a few days. Debbie was very detailed in telling me exactly what the procedure was like, what to expect, and made sure I didn't leave with any questions. On my final appointment, Dr. Valin again, went over the procedure with me. He is very quiet and professional, but has a good sense of humor. After my liver ultrasound, he put down his tools and said \"ITS A BOY!\". I have researched gastric bypass for a long while now, and Dr. Valin was clearly the best choice. I decided that a little drive was nothing if I was getting the best care. I am 8 days post op, and have absolutely made the right decision!

It is time...
on November 5, 2006 6:40 pm
Well..I guess it is time for me to make a post on here.  My name is Jill.  I am 23 years old from Rhode Island.  I toyed with the idea of gastric bypass for a long time, but just recently made my final decision.  I have always been big.  I am actually not at my largest right now.  In high school I was 285 lbs, but have since gotten down to 230.  Wow..good for me, huh?  Not so much.  The only reason I lost weight was because I had undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes.  It was doing so much damage to my body, and I had so much glucose that my body was no longer depending on the sugar for energy.  It was so flooded that It turned to my fat supply.  Since my diagnosis, a few years ago, I have been on medications, diet, excesize, a personal trainer (who I called bob...like from the biggest loser).  I had lost more weight the healthy way, but here I am....23 years old..a diabetic...on the BMI borderline, and faced with a decision.  Although my weight has gone down, my eating habits have drastically changed, and I seem healthier...my sugar has continued to be out of control. I have made a decision to better my life and my health by undergoing gastric bypass this friday, Novemeber 10th.  Before my BMI drops below 35, I needed to decide, and I am all about getting rid of the diabetes.  My doctor told me that since my body is not responding well to my medication, it is almost a fact that I will be on insulin within the next couple years.  I still have a chance for my body to repair my pancreas, and live a normal life.  What many people do not know, is that gastric bypass is nearly a cure for type 2 diabetes.  There is a 90% cure rate..that is amazing, and all the proof I need.  I was told that by the time I leave the hospital, I will no longer need any medication.  In fact they told me not to even take it on the morning of my surgery.

So here I go...4 more days until I'm bringing sexy back...and sending diabetes away
