Surgeon Testimonial

S. Scott Davis, MD
My Husband and I attended a WLS seminar hosted by Emory Bariatrics. The Doctor speaking at the seminar was Dr. Davis. Our first impression was WOW he is so YOUNG!!! Yet he was so informative and really made me feel at ease about their office and feel better about moving forward with my decision to have WLS. Ever since that night I have had nothing but a FABULOUS experience with Dr. Davis and the entire EMORY staff. They have been wonderful to me and are always available to answer my questions. I'm thrilled that this is the practice I have chosen for my WLS. On a side note...he looks younger than he actually is...but my husband still calls him Doogie Hosier!!!

My name is Rhonda. I am 38 years old and have 6 children. I have struggled with weight most of my life, but have not ever been this overweight. I usually needed to lose like 15 to 20 pounds, now it's 140 lbs I have to lose. It is so overwhelming to me that I have struggled with depression from how much weight I have to lose and that I have been unsuccessful in every attempt. After getting my regular physical this year my doctor recommended I look into Weight Loss Surgery. So, here I am...scheduled to have my last test and final meeting with my Dr. before Surgery. I am very scared...I want this to work so badly, but am afraid I will once again be unsuccessful. I don't have much time for me right now and I know that I HAVE to make time for me in order to be successful at losing weight. I'm praying that this will be the life changing experience I need.

I've Got a Date
on June 22, 2008 3:30 pm
I'm finally scheduled for Surgery...JULY 1st!!!!! I am excited, but a little scared. I have had trouble losing the weight I need to lose pre-surgery. I am also very nervous about all the protein and vitamins I will need to take post-op. I'm a little overwhelmed with what I should buy...what is the best protein product out there that will taste good and give me the right amount of protein needed. Lot's going on in my head to prepare. Please pray for me as I finalize everything.

My Story

I have always struggled with my weight. In High School it was only 15 or so pounds and now it's 140 lbs. I would try a weight loss program and would lose about 20 to 30 lbs and then would get frustrated and stop...gaining all the weight I lost back, plus more!!! Which is how I got to where I am now. I married my husband 9 years ago. He had 3 kids from his first marriage and we have full custody of those three. We had 2 boys together and thought we were done. I wanted my tubes tied, but my OB wanted me to lose some weight first (easier said than done)...so I joined another Weight Loss Program and lost 30 lbs. I really had around 70lbs to lose, but knew the doctor would do the surgery now that I had lost the 30 lbs. I was scheduled to go in to discuss getting my tubes tied after the holidays! On Christmas day I got really sick and had to go to the Emergency Room. While there they told me that I needed my Gallbladder out. Before they would schedule the surgery they asked if I was pregnant...to which I replied...NO!!!! Well 20 minutes later they came back to inform my husband and I that we were expecting baby number SIX!!! After a lot of shock and crying ( I could not believe I was going to GAIN all the weight back that I had just worked so hard to lose)!!! Well...God knew that our little girl (born in August) would complete our family!! Even though I gained all my weight back...PLUS lots more...it was worth it when I look into her beautiful BLUE eyes!! So, now that I am 140 lbs overweight I am considering Weight Loss Surgery. I originally was wanting the Lap Band surgery, but am now considering the Gastric ByPass (RNY) surgery. I am afraid of the more invasive surgery, but feel in the long run it is the best choice for me.
