Surgeon Testimonial

Marek Lutrzykowski, M.D.
I met with Dr. Lutrzykowski on May 11th , 2007. He is very kind and caring. He seems genuinely interested in me as a person and how this surgery is going to affect my life. I was in tears just thinking about the changes that will happen because of him. I am very happy that I was told to look him up. Julie of course was fantastic...I hope he pays her well....tehee!!!!

Surgery Day July 05, 2007
on February 13, 2008 4:07 pm
July 5, 2007

These accounts are from memory as I am very late updating this stuff.

Today is surgery day.  Hubby and I are heading the hospital a bit early.  We arrive and they pretty much take me right away saying that Dr. L is ahead of schedule and he wants me to be prepped.  The hospital if wonderful, big and clean.  Everyone is great!  They even have TV's in the pre-op rooms.  I am taken into surgery and it's not long until I am out of it.  The next thing I remember is me being in my room.  I don't even remember being in recovery.  Things went well except it was longer as I had a lot of adhesions that Dr. L had to deal with.

2 Weeks to go!
on June 20, 2007 2:01 pm
Well in two weeks I will be in MI getting ready for my surgery.  This will be my prep day in two weeks...weeeeeeeeeee.!!!!! NOT  haha!

I am feeling pretty go but have little twinges of being scared.  Mostly of leaving my kids or god forbid I have something go really wrong with the surgery and have to spend time in the hospital.  I am thinking this is completely normal but it's still there.  I have had major surgery before and I prepared for the pain afterwards.

I hope all works out and in two months I am all healed.

My Story

Hi my name is Sandra and I am 47 years old.  I have already had my surgery but am just now getting around to updating my profile and info on OH.  I thought it was time.  I have been overweight pretty much since I was in my early teens.  It may have only been 20lbs then but as each year went by and each child was born I got heavier and heavier.  I had my first child when I was only 15 years old and I distinctly remember wearing a size 9 and thinking that I was fatter than any of my other friend.  Before I was 22 I had three children and was raising them on my own.  I turned to food to comfort myself in times of need.  It was a very stressful time in my life.  As the years went by I would put on 5-10lbs a year and before I knew it was was 228 lbs and my youngest of my five children ( three of whom are full grown adults now) was only 9 years old.  I wanted so badly not to be the old fat mother.  It was Christmas of 2005 when I was shopping with my daughter on Christmas Eve and I had the worst headache in the world.  We went into Shoppers Drug Mart to shop and while I was there I decided to take my blood pressure.  It was a whopping 155/95.  It wasn't long after Christmas that I made an appt with my GP to get it checked out.  I told him about my heart pounding and the shakes that I had.  He took it again and it was 185/105.   He immediately went into his office and brought out samples of bp pill and said take one right now.  So not only was I 100lbs overweight now but I had high blood pressure.  Ughh!  Just over a year now I met a lady at my then place of employment.  I had noticed her progressively losing weight and in a short period of time.  I finally got up the nerve to ask her how she was doing it and she told me Duodenal Switch WLS.  I was immediately intrigued and started asking questions.  She gave me the OH website as well.  It took me awhile to join here and I had joined some on yahoo first and I got scared.  It was in March that I talked to her again with my concerns and she said that alot of what I was reading was a select few people and encouraged me to sign onto OH.  So I did.  Everyone answered my questions and were a great help.  I went to see my PCP on April 20th, 2007 and he signed my letter right away and was completely supportive.  I was so thrilled.  After sending the paperwork off to OHIP that day I received my approval 11 days later.  We were off to the races.  My family and my husband were completely behind me although they were worried.  It wasnt' long now!  I am not going to be the fat mom anymore.
