Thomas Clark
My first impression of Dr. Clark was very good. I got the feeling like he was very experienced with the surgery and knew what he was doing. In his seminar, he's extremely helpful and makes sure to touch on every base to inform all potential patients of the advantages and disadvantages. I felt very confident in having him operate on me. I was pleased with his combined method of the vertical band and the gastric bypass. I feel that it's a very thorough method, and it definitely worked well for me. His office staff are all very informative, and I've never had a problem getting my questions answered or receiving a call back from any of the doctors or nurses. He seems personally connected with his patients, and though he has a high volume of patients that come to him, he never seems to forget a face (no matter how much it may change). I would definitely recommend any one I know that's interested in getting the surgery to him. rnrnThe only thing I had a problem digesting at his office (metaphorically of course), was the nutritionist and her aide. I saw her once, and during that session, she was not very helpful and did not really set a strict guide for what I expected to be eating throughout the rest of the year. She was nice and friendly, but I did not feel I benefitted from her advice. Whats more, is they offer a couple of programs for different prices, and you're required to purchase at least one. I don't feel like I really saw anything for the money paid for the program. I'm not even exactly sure what it was paid for, to be honest.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
Before surgery, my behavior and emotion with weight was like a roller coaster. It was always up and down. One day I hated myself because of the way I looked, and the next day I was trying to find ways to accept who I was and love myself... fat or not. I was always too proud to acknowledge how I really was. In my eyes, I was beautiful and didn't need to change. Eventually, I learned of my high blood pressure and pre-diabetes and new it was time to get a hold of my problem. I knew it was time to do something. I was on the waiting list at portsmouth for about a year and a half when I found out that I was accidentally dropped of the list and that they would only be able to put my back on somewhere in the middle. That's when I decided that I would have to...

just jabbering
on August 28, 2005 1:48 pm
I know I'm a bit late on the 4 month post-op pics... but hey, it's only 3 days... no big whoop. I'm down to 191/192 now. Which is way awesome. I had my 4 month post-op appt last Thursday, and they said I'm doing great, and everything I'm going through (ex] feeling that I can eat way more than I think I should be able to eat) is completely normal, which is a relief. They said there's no real way to tell how big my stomach is right now, and that I just have to go by what my stomach tells me is okay. Well, enough jabbering, picture time. Oh, I also posted a new face picture that I want updated soon, so that i can have a more updated picture when I post. [posted at bottom of profile].

Lookie what I got!
on August 22, 2005 1:47 pm
My wedding dress finally came in today. I was just so excited that the dress actually fit, that I had to take pictures and post them immediately. We ordered the dress when I was about a month post-op. We ordered the dress about 4 sizes too small at the time, and now it fits almost perfectly. It's a little tight through the middle, and may make it kind of uncomfortable to sit down, but I'm sure another 10-15 lbs, and it'll be just fine. I'm gonna start curving, I think, so hopefully those pounds and remaining inches will just fly off. Anyways, picture time (please note that these pictures hardly do justice for the dress' beauty):

The sleeves are detachable, so I'll probably wear them for the ceremony and take them off for the reception, just so everyone can see the dress both ways. Hey, I'm only going to wear it once, I might as well get full use out of it! UGH! I'm so glad it's finally here!

Teet and Totter
on August 15, 2005 1:46 pm
I've been teetering between 199 and 198 for the last week. It'll make up it's mind soon, haha. This week I'm flying out to Missouri for my Fiance's family reunion. It will be the first time I've seen his dad and his sister after the surgery. The last time I saw his dad, I was at my heighest weight of 263, so I'm sure it will be quite shocking to see me magically 64 lbs lighter, lol. I won't see his mom until the wedding which is 2 months away. I'll probably lose another 15 to 20 lbs by then. So, it really will be quite a shock for her. I'm looking forward to everyone's reactions though. I never get tired of hearing how good I look ;). I don't like to fly, but at least this time, I don't have to be worried that my weight might contribute to a problem. It's a good feeling.

I'm at the point now where i can eat pretty much anything... just in proportioned amounts. It's almost as if I didn't even have the surgery, and the only thing that reminds me is the scar. It feels like I'm on weight watchers, because I can literally have what I want, but I never eat too much of anything. I stay away from lots of sugars and sodas... and I'm doing great with my progress. I never would have dreamed that I would've lost close to 65 lbs in under 4 months.

Margaritas are SO good
on August 7, 2005 1:45 pm
I posted a new before/after picture of my face from the side. I had a picture on my fridge that's been there for a year as a method of keeping me away from it (needless to say, it didn't work. Everytime I saw it, I got depressed and ate everything in the fridge). It's a picture of me from the side at my mother's Birthday party last August. Beside it, I posted a new picture of me from the side... it's pretty dramatic. I seriously almost don't even look like the same person. Aside from that... everything's great. I missed my 3 month post-op appt, because they didn't call and remind me about it... so they've set me a new date RIGHT on my 4 month post-op anniversary. Well, I'm down to 199 finally. I'm finally in ONEderland, and broken the cursed 200's!! YES!!! It feels great... in every way. I feel so tiny now. It's awesome. Everything seems to be getting bigger... my car, public toilet seats, chairs, booths... everything. It's so amazing. Anyways, just wanted to update. Oh, and I LOVE margaritas!
