Surgeon Testimonial

Donald A. Balder MD
My first impression of Dr. Balder is that he was very quiet but confident. I was comfortable with him from the beginning. He doesn't say very much but he does emphasize the importance of doing what you should after the surgery.

5 months out
on March 1, 2008 9:28 pm
Today makes exactly 5 months since I've had my lap RNY. In the beginning the weight was falling off like crazy but it has definitely slowed down. I think I've only lost about 15 pounds since the beginning of January. But I'm definitely not complaining anything is better than nothing and anything is better than being 330 pounds. My best friend had the surgery in 2004 and she warned me that my attitude would change and I have to say that it definitely has. I just feel so good about myself now. I even like to look no love to look at myself in the mirror. I am so grateful to God for allowing me to have this surgery. This is the beginning of a new life for me. I will complete my teachers certification in May and hopefully will be relocating to a bigger city and begin a real career not just a job. I've started going to the gym consistently this is  big for me because I never went in the beginning. I'm also going to get my measurements from my surgeons office so that I can keep up with how many inches I've lost, but as far as pounds go I when I left the hospital on October 3rd I was weighing 332 today at 5 months out I weigh 239 for a total of 93 pounds gone forever. I can't wait until I reach that 100 pound mark and eventually my goal of 180 pounds to make my goal of 150....  Oh by the way, I went in walmart and bought some things to exercise in and the pants are a 16 and the shirt is a 12, did you hear me a 12!!! What is that me in a size 12. The only thing is that I'm still self concious and in these workout attire, I get too much attention. My waist is small as hell even my surgeon last week was amazed at how tiny my waist was. I just wish these hips and boobs would shrink. I went and bought some jeans from lane bryant and they were the smallest size that they sold, they were tight in the thighs and really gapping in the waist. Does anyone have a solution for that like another store I could shop in. It's ridiculous that I've shopped in Lane Bryant and Ashley stewart for so long I don't even know anything about other stores....Please help me out!!!!!

Here are my goals for the month:

1. Exercise 5 times per week
2. Take my vitamins everyday
3. Drinkk at least 100 oz of water EVERYDAY
4. Lose 12 Pounds for a total of 105 Pounds by 6 months
5. Stay away from sugars
6. Eat CORRECTLY!!!!

To my weight loss family stay encouraged until next time.....Be safe and God Bless

WOW!!!
on February 5, 2008 11:26 am
Okay today I had my first WOW moment. I went to put on a skirt that my mom gave me a few weeks ago, although I just knew it wasn't going to fit, and guess what it did fit!!! I was amazed because it was a size 16....I can't believe that I can  wear a size 16 anything. I think the last time I wore a 16 was probably in 1997 or so. I was so happy I literally started crying. Even though it hasn't been all roses, this journey has been truly amazing and one that I wouldn't exchange for anything. Before surgery, October 1st, I weighed about 330 and my clothing were a size 26/28 now 4 months later I weigh 245 and a size 16 in skirts 18 in pants (those darn hips) and a 14 in shirts.. This is unbelieveable. I never thought that I would be able to actually write those numbers for all the world to see but I guess not being in denial about what I actually was is the first step to making progress. I also hope that I can help someone else along the way. This website is awesone it has truly helped and inspired me so I hope I can do the same to others.

My Story

Hello everyone, I've been contemplating for the last three or four months whether or not I wanted to actually post a profile. I enjoyed veiwing everyone else's profile and reading their stories, I've decided to share mines as well. My weight problem actually began a few years after I graduated high school and it has only gotten worse since then. I was always an average weight person but when the pounds started to come boy did they come. Anyway to make a long story short I ballooned to over 300 pounds. After I had my daughter in 2005 I knew that I had to do something. I researched weight loss surgery for a while and after seeing it's positive outcome on so many other people, I decided that it was the way to go for me. So anyway on October 1, 2007 I had  Lap RNY and it had been a rocky journey since then. Anyone that is considering or is about to have the surgery let me tell you, PLEASE FOLLOW ALL POST SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS!!!! I don't regret having my surgery but I had a little bit of complication because I was not taking my vitamins or drinking enough. I complained that the vitamins were nasty and too big and made me sick and I drank my liquids but not enough. This made me dehydrated and I could not keep anything down of course I had to go back into the hospital for a week. Other than this, I am very happy with my surgery and the effects that I now see that it will bring. I just want to wish everyone good luck on their journey.....
