Surgeon Testimonial

Clifford Deveney, M.D.
Dr. Deveney is a brusque, busy guy, who has tons of experience behind him but not a lot of time for patient interaction. His nurse, Vicki, is wonderfully patient and accessible, and she really is the go-to person throughout the experience. I have no complaints about Dr. Deveney, though-he did a fantastic job on me with zero complications. I felt well-supported throughout the whole process.

Best night ever!
posted on 3/11/07 10:58 am
My friend Tamee had an amazing gathering last night of women, to celebrate 3 birthdays, 1 new house, and 3 upcoming bariatric surgeries. One of us had a RNY 2 years ago and was there to answer questions and lend support. Tamee even hired a Reiki master/masseuse, and a photographer, who set up a studio for those of us who wanted portraits! I was blown away by her care and attention to detail. It was such an incredible feeling to be with women who are going through the same thing, and others who were just there to support us and have a great time. I don't know what I would do without Tamee-we've been going through the pre-surgery process together, and her surgery date is set for a couple weeks after mine. We even had both our sleep studies on the same nights, by coincidence! She's been someone I can talk to about every detail of this procedure, ad nauseum, and she just "gets it". I am thankful and grateful and thrilled to have her as my friend. I was nervous to have my picture taken, because I knew I would finally have to face what I really look like. For a long time I've avoided looking in the mirror beyond a quick glance. Ben took both face portraits and full-body shots, and did everything possible to make me feel comfortable. It really wasn't bad-I even looked at the pictures on his digital camera and survived. Yes, I look pregnant and a bit wider than I had thought, but it's only temporary. I'm still me. As soon as get my "before" shots, I'll post them here. Last night while receiving Reiki energy work, I was surprised by how many emotions popped up. I knew I was feeling a lot of fear and anxiety about the surgery, but some strong feelings of guilt and shame unexpectedly came through as well. I thought I had already worked through that, but now I know I need to really go deep and deal with it. Throughout the session, in my mind I kept hearing the Nelly Furtado song "I'm Like a Bird," and seeing different bird images, like sparrows, a crow, and flocks of unidentified birds flying away. I interpret this as upcoming freedom from the prison of fat that I'm in now. The flock of birds represents my support network, and how I'm not alone in this. It was beautiful!
