Welcome to my profile! I am a 53 year old woman who is on her way to having RNY surgery. My daughter and I had explored WLS for some time and had decided to go through with it around Christmas of 2006. We both got going with the process of getting approved by getting our pre-op tests done when I had snags. First my heart tests were suspect and I had to go for more tests to rule out heart disease. Then my mammogram showed suspicious calcifications that turned out to be breast cancer. I'm finishing up the last of my cancer treatments this month, so I will be moving ahead with my surgery very soon.
I'm almost there. After a year of "cancer", I am healed and ready to go forward! I will complete my last pre-op test today. Right now I think that my surgery will be scheduled for late October/early November. Central Pacific Medical Center has a wonderful view of the Golden Gate Bridge so as you take your hospital walks that is the sight that you see with every round. I'm going to make that my emblem of success.
As a child I was not heavy. When i was in 6th grade I began "feeling fat", but I really wasn't. I was tall, so when they weighed us in school I was always the tallest and also among the heaviest of the girls in my class. I also had already begun to rely on food for emotional sustenance. I loved all kinds of food. Since I was tall and fairly active, my food intake didn't show until I was in my late teens. From that point on I got heavier with each passing year.
