Yippee!

Total Weight Lost: 100.1
Time Since Surgery: 31 weeks
New BMI: 31

I have officially lost 100 pounds. 100.1, to be exact! I had my six-month appointment last week Wednesday, and the scale read 200.6. I'm pretty happy with that. I'm under 200 if I take my shoes off, but that'd be cheating since I haven't done that with any of my other weigh-ins.

I also filmed that commercial for the Bariatric Center a week or so ago. It'll be airing on FSN starting this week Wednesday. I'm excited about it, but nervous at the same time. I know a lot of people who watch the Brewers games on FSN, so there will be no hiding my surgery any longer. Not that I really hid. It's just that I didn't advertise. I guess we'll see what happens! I still get to go to one of the games and do a live spot with one of the sports announcers. I'm hoping for Labor Day weekend! I'll let you know!

Five More Pounds!
on August 4, 2007 4:23 am
I am hoping to get rid of that last few pounds before the 100s by Wednesday. That's when my six-month appointment is. Actually, it's more like seven months at that point, but that's fine. I really want to be below 200 - that'll be 100 pounds lost then! Yippee! Let's see how the weekend goes... Weekends are always the hardest for me, although there really should be enough things to keep me busy. Like cleaning for one? Laundry for two?

Lisa and I (along with a few others) spent Sunday at Six Flags Great America. That was the first time I had been there since the "Batman" incident years ago. That was probably the most humiliating experience for me. I was asked to leave the ride because the latch wouldn't fit - the seat wouldn't close all the way. They had to unlock all the seats so that I, the fat person, could get off the ride. I was so embarrased!

My last trip was so much better. I was still nervous about fitting on the rides. I think once something like that happens to you, your ego and sense of confidence takes a BIG hit. I made sure to sit in the test seat at the beginning of the line for Batman. There was so much extra room! I even have a picture of me in the seat that I'll have to upload. The Superman ride was AWESOME! You are tipped on your stomach so that it feels like you are flying. That's a ride where the front row is the place to be! Next time.

On another happy note, I am down 90 pounds and I purchased my first Old Navy outfit the other day! Size 16 - no longer plus size... at least at that store! :)

Guess What?
on July 21, 2007 4:08 am
So a few months ago, I was complaining to Sue, the bariatric center coordinator, about how my favorite Brewers jersey (Geoff Jenkins, of course - cutie pie!) no longer fit and that I had NOTHING to wear to the games I planned on attending. I didn't think much of the comment at the time, until yesterday...

I got a phone call from Sue, and she told me that the hospital is sponsor for the Brewers, and that they were looking to make a series of commercials, one of which features the bariatric center. The marketing director was looking for a patient who was a baseball fan (Brewers in particular), and Sue thought of my story. So, I GET TO BE IN A COMMERCIAL! I also get to bring friends/family to a game. After my commercial airs, they'll find me and do a short live interview. How nervous am I? QUITE! But, I'm hoping I'll get to meet Geoff Jenkins... We'll see!

I think the best part of this whole thing is that I was looking for a jumpstart. I've written about how the past few months have been tough for me, and I was becoming pretty complacent. Now, I have vowed to be amazingly good until this interview takes place. I really want to hit 100 pounds lost by the time it happens. More importantly, though, it makes me feel really good that Sue thought I could represent the bariatric center in this way. I haven't pictured myself as the epitome of success - there are so many people who have lost more quickly than I. This is a nice boost! (That's an understatement, really!)

Happy 6-Month Anniversary To Me!
on July 11, 2007 7:49 am
Start Weight: 300.7
Current Weight: 215.6
Total Weight Lost: 85.1
Time Since Surgery: 27 weeks

I know - I skipped a weekly post. I'm frustrated about that, too, since last week was my 6-month anniversary! I've been so good about updating each week, and then I miss the one memorable week I've had. Oh, well. I'm sure it won't be the last time.

Things are pretty good at six months. I'm eating and drinking whatever I want (within reason, of course), and I'm not sick! I've become a bit relaxed, though - a problem I've had for a while. I just need to keep at it and remember how important things like food choices, iron pills, and exercise are! Keep on pluggin', right?

I am officially wearing an Old Navy 16 now. That's kind of cool. I really don't have a weight goal, I just wanted to get out of the women's clothing department. I've done that, at least at one store. I'll have to wait a bit longer for other brands to fit. I'd also like to be under 200. I'm so close! That would be a success for me.

My Story

I've decided it's finally time to start this thing up. I've been lurking around the OH site for a while now, and have even started posting! After looking at so many inspiring journals and blogs of other members' weight loss stories, I came to the conclusion that I need to start writing my own account of my WLS journey! Like so many others out there, I have had a life-long battle with my weight. I'm not sure people can ever understand what it's like to go through one's life on the outside. With the exception of a core group of friends, nobody really took notice to the person inside the chubby body. It's tough to understand that sort of life unless, that is, you've experienced the same thing. That's the reason I love this forum - our lives may be different, the details from our stories may be different, but we have all experienced, to some degree, the same challenges. After a lot of research and soul searching (and a 30th birthday in August), I decided to look into having weight loss surgery. A good friend of mine had RNY Gastric Bypass in July of 2006, and she referred me to her surgeon. I met with him, and instantly knew that this was what I needed to do! It wasn't an easy journey. There were unexpected problems with my insurance company and a few family members that were concerned about the surgery (and rightfully so). But I did it! I was finally in the OR on January 2nd, 2007. I do believe it was the best New Year's gift I could have ever received, and I haven't looked back since!
