Sudden Change of life
on December 24, 2011 6:46 am

I originally had the lapband put in on May 1, 2007, within about a year, I had problems with it herniating, they took out all the fluid and told me that would solve everything and I would be just fine,
All they did was tell me "Give your stomach time to heal itself"...
Well, I have had problems off and on over the past 3 years, then all of a sudden last Friday morning, around 230 a.m., I went to the ER, (second time in 24 hours), I had leukocytosis, I ended up in emergency surgery where I almost died.
Come to find out that my band should have been removed years before instead of just deflated. It has slipped anteriorly and destroyed over half of my stomach. They had to remove the band, separate the band from the liver (thank goodness it wasn't destroyed), and remove over half of my stomach.
I was just released from the hospital late last night after a week in the hospital, with a gastric sleeve. While the surgeons there were fantastic and I owe them my life, I had come to 'accept' where I am and I guess haven't had the time to accept what is happening. I now have to learn how to live with the sleeve that I do not know enough about. I am trying to read up on what to expect and guess I need words of encouragement to make it through this. I was told that it is a miracle of how good and quickly I have started on my recovery, but know that this is a life alterating change and just a bit scared...
