I'm Lisa. I'm 38 years old and 5'3" tall. I started this journey at 250 pounds. I had type II diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea, and major aches and pains in my feet, knees, hips, and back. I was slowly killing myself. I made the decision to start looking into WLS in November 2005. After a long few months of testing and waiting, I finally had surgery on 5/11/06. Although while in the hospital I said, "What did I do to myself??" I do not regret having the surgery for a minute! My diabetes is in remission, I no longer need my CPAP machine, and I haven't had any problems with my asthma! Woo hoo!

Got some help...
on December 11, 2006 1:15 pm
I went to Shauna's support group meeting on Saturday...and proceeded to have a breakdown...yup, in front of the whole group of people! And the amazing thing is...no one laughed at me or judged me or made me feel bad. It was incredible! I feel like such a weight has been lifted. Just to know I have so many wonderful friends who are there to support me is an awesome feeling! So...I started taking my vitamins again, and I'm going back to basics with the protein shakes and such. I'm cutting out all of the bad carbs I've seemed to start eating again...and, I'm going to start going to the gym finally! Thanks to all of you!

Update 12/6/06
on December 6, 2006 7:33 am
Been a while since I have posted...I never seem to have time to go on the Internet anymore! Anyway, I'm doing ok...I have started to go to Shauna's support group meetings and they are helping a lot! I've been having issues with eating...forgetting to eat, forgetting to take my vitamins, grazing...and I have been stuck on or around 185 for over two months now. I'm getting really mad at myself because I didn't have major surgery to fail at this! But as everyone keeps telling me, the surgery fixes my stomach, not my brain! So...I'm trying to do better! You all are wonderful people and are such a help to me. So thank you from the bottom of my heart and Happy Holidays to all!

5/23/06 - I've finally had the surgery on May 11th! I will admit that for a day or two I was regretting doing it because they had trouble finding a pain med that worked, but now I'm doing well and hope to continue doing well! I go for my two-week follow-up this Friday...I hope to receive good news!!

9/21/06 - It's been a long time since I have been in OH...I am doing very well...it's been over four months and I am down to 190 lbs! I am also off of all of my diabetes and asthma medicines and I don't need my CPAP machine anymore! Woo hoo! Life is great!

Hoping for the surgery
on December 6, 2006 7:17 am
I am a very happy and content person...except for my obesity and health problems. I am with the most wonderful man on the planet who loves me for who I am, not what I look like. We love animals and currently have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I am hoping to have the surgery because I want my life back!
