It's been a while since I posted anything, so here I am.  I have not lost 66 pounds.  It's amazing how different I feel.  I look in the mirror and think that I have a long way to go, but people all around me are noticing a difference.  I have days that I wonder what the hell did I do to myself, but most days I'm very glad I made the decision to get healthy.  I'm now an expert at throwing up.  I can do it without making any noise.  I had a couple of rough days this week, but overall, most days are good.  My biggest struggle at this point is getting all my water in.  That was never a problem in the past, but I struggle often with it.  I'm sure each day will continue to get better!

Have a Terrific Day!

2 week post surgery appointment
on July 22, 2009 10:23 am
I just got back from my two week post surgery appointment.  I've lost 45 pounds and I get to start eating soft foods!  I'm very excited.  I go back to work on the 29th and I'm excited about that as well.  I love my job and the people I work with, so I'm ready!

I'm home!
on July 8, 2009 2:07 pm
Well I had surgery yesterday and I'm home today!  I feel a little rough, but I did everything on the check list to get out and my doctor wants me to continue to doing the things on the check list.  He realizes that most people don't get enough rest in the hospital, so that is part of the reason he sent me home.

3 days to go
on July 4, 2009 5:36 am
I went to the doctor on Thursday and met with the most awesome PA.  As of Thursday I had lost 19 pounds.  I'm ready for my surgery and now have a time, so reality is really setting in that this is going to happen.  I'm a little nervous, but I'm keeping positive thoughts.  I am getting a few things done around the house today, so I can come home to a clean house.  Bryan did spring cleaning about a week ago, so this is just normal weekly stuff.  This will probably be my last post until after surgery, so I'll see you on the other side!

My Story

For as long as I can remember I've struggled with my weight.  When I was a child, I wore huskies pants.  I hated them because on the label that showed to the world it said "huskies."  Nobody needed to know that!  I was teased for being fat, teased for being uncoordinated and later on in school called a fag.  I hated school and the kids I went to school with.  I was always the last to be picked in gym and then they might fight over who had to take me.  Those are painful memories, but I don't dwell on the negative.  The positive is that when I was only 3 days old I was adopted by two of the most amazing people.  I lived through my childhood which was touch and go sometimes due to breathing issues.  Don't think poor pity for me, think it's great to be alive and life is great!  I grew up, lost all my weight in my early 20's, worked out 2 hours a day, ran 10 miles a day, but I always felt fat.  I never got definition, so even though I was very fit, I always felt round.  Well now I'm big and round.  While like most people I have some issues still, for the most part I am a well adjusted man.  I love life.  I have a wonderful partner that I've been with for 9 years.  We live outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I am a QA Coach and a licensed insurance agent in all 50 states and D.C.  I work for a large insurance company and love my job!  Life is good except for my weight.  I have tried the cabbage soup diet, weight watchers, a medically managed diet, the grapefruit diet, the cider vinegar diet, atkins, and the Mayo Clinic Diet.  I've lost only to put it all back on plus some.  I know surgery is only a tool, but I hope to be ready to work through the hard times and get the weight off and keep it off.  I'm positive God's not finished with me yet, so watch out world here come's a new and improved thinner Greg!
