November 23rd~ I really need to get an after pic on here! I'm down 108 lbs in 9 months. That puts me at 140lbs and I'm wearing a size 6! I don't have many problems with extra skin at all, it probably has to do with my age and skin elasticity. I just have a little wrinkling on my lower tummy that doesn't bother me at all! I don't feel the need for plastic surgery, maybe someday after we have kids I'll get my boobs done! Things are going great, me and hubby do a lot more things with friends and I have so much more energy! I really can't stress enough how great this surgery has been for me, I feel like I got my life back!
Hope all is going well with everyone, I know I don't get on here much anymore, I'm just so busy! I think about everyone all the time though!
August 25th 2007~ Down a total of 88lbs in 6 months! I average 3 lbs a week. I still feel great and I've been so busy that I haven't had time to update anything! Still the best decision I ever made!
Weight 160.0 lbs!
May 1st 2007~ Down 52 lbs since surgery on Feb 5th. I'm feeling great with no complications! I can't believe I didn't consider this sooner! It has been a really easy road to where I'm at and I'm so glad I made this decision! I can't wait for what's to come. Weight 196.0 lbs!
February 11th 2007~ Feeling better now and am down 10lbs since surgery! 20 lbs total from my highest. This gets better every day! Weight 228.0
February 8th 2007~ I'm home and feeling okay. I actually went home the day after surgery! My doc made me stay until 4pm and then I was free! Upper GI was fine-no leaks. This is a little harder than expected but I'm managing hour by hour. I made the mistake of using straws yesterday and drinking SF Tang for my fluids. Combination of the 2 did not sit well, I was so bloated and gassy! Today I'm sticking to water and protein shakes trying to get my fluids in. I've lost 6 pounds since surgery! Don't most people gain in the hospital from all the fluids? Anyhow, the only thing I can say is I miss food. I miss chewing! I know it will get better when I can start full liquids on Sunday. Then the following week I can have soft foods. After that I'll be okay. I don't want to eat a lot, just want to chew. Clear liquids suck! Anyhow, I'm off to do some walking and get back in bed and rest. By the way, the pain isn't bad at all. Just feels like you did a bunch of sit-ups. I'll update more when I'm feling more up to it! Weight 232 lbs
January 31st 2007~ Giving a shout out to my friend Lisa, she's been great support through all of this! Thank you Lisa! Also, thank you to all of my other supportive friends!
Scroll down to see my up to surgery updates. I will start here when I get home from surgery. It's coming up quick (Feb 5th) and I'm getting pretty nervous, I'm also excited to be done and get to the losers bench! Wish me luck!
October 9th 2006~ My husband and I went to the Bariatric Surgery meeting at the hospital I work at. Very informational for us both and lasted 2 hours. Found out my insurance is at the top in terms of approval for surgery. I decide to make an appointment with my PCP to discuss WLS.
November 2nd 2006~ I met with my PCP to discuss WLS and to get a physical. She was very supportive and agreed to write me a referral letter right away! I love my PCP, she's so easy to talk to! My blood pressure was 140/90 and now I have to keep tract of them and take it at work every so often. I got some lab work done (CBC, BMP, Lipid Level, Thyroid levels) Everything was normal except my Fasting Blood Sugar was 103 (after 10 hours) higher than normal. The nurse said I could be "pre-diabetic." Weight 244.
November 8th 2006~ emailed the nurse at the Bariatric center to expect my referral letter form my PCP. She emailed me back and said "We already have it!" So I made my first appointment!
November 16th 2006~ Annual Pap, we talked about birth control after my surgery and she wished me luck. Weight 246.
November 20th 2006~ I had my first appointment at the Bariatric Center. I met with the nurse and did all the initial things. Insurance, how much I would have to pay out of pocket after approval, weight with BMI and body analysis. I have 48% body fat, that is almost half of my body! She answered all of my questions and told me after all my appointments I should hear from the insurance company about approval somewhere around X-Mas. What a wonderful X-mas present an approval would be! Everyone was so wonderful and sweet! She said I could probably be scheduled for surgery in early January! I got my "before" picture taken. Weight 242.0 (I must have been nervous:)
November 30th 2006~ Nutritionist appointment. I know several people who have had this surgery so I knew what to expect going in. We talked about not to gaining weight before surgery, tips for a healthy diet up until my Hi Pro-Low carb diet 2 weeks before surgery. The carb levels of this diet are going to be no problem, it's much higher than Atkins or South Beach! She was really nice and gave me all the info I needed pre and post op and told me I could call her anytime with questions and that I would be seeing her again before surgery. She also gave me some protein supplements to try and we went over my usual eating habits and she told me I had to give up Diet Mt. Dew by the 2 week Hi Pro-LowCarb diet, start eating 3 meals a day instead of 2, watch my sugar and carbs, eat lean protein and try to eat more veggies. I think I can sacrifice it for all this! She answered all my questions and sent me on my way. Weight 246.5.
December 4th 2006~ Psych eval. I felt like this lady was making mental note of every move I made. The way I sat, my gestures and everything. She asked me questions like what were my strengths and weaknesses and I felt like I was at a job interview. I felt put on the spot and couldn't think of much. I don't really like people asking me personal questions, at least people I don't know. She was very nice and I know she was just doing her job to make sure my surgery is a success. I'm just glad it is done. She said the office manager will get in touch with me later this week and either schedule another appointment with her or with the surgeon. She said she may have some things to go ever after looking at my almost 1,000 question test, or she may not. We'll see how well she figured me out I guess. Like one of my good friends said, "at least you don't have any mommy issues! Weight 248.0
December 6th 2006~ I got a call from Terry at the Bariatric Center today with the go-ahead to make my appointment with the surgeon! I meet with him on December 14th. I don't have to see the Psychologist again. Things are moving quickly!
December 14th 2006~ I met with Dr. Christopherson today! I just loved him, he was so easy to talk to! He did my exam, talked for a long time, answered what questions I had and then sent me for labwork (CMP, HGB A1C, and UA) and an EKG. I have to get a sleep study, and that is scheduled for December 26th. I also found out that they already sent in my packet to my insurance company! It was sent December 12th and I should hear back from them in the next week or so! Weight 245.5
December 19th 2006~ APPROVED!!!! Theresa called me today and said Dr. Christopherson called her and said BCBS called him to say they approved me! WOOHOO! It's only been a week since my packet went in! Surgery tentatively scheduled for February 5th. Our schedule just came out up until January 27th so i couldn't put in vacation time till after that. I took of 3 weeks! I don't think I'll need that much but I figure it will give me a chance to get used to my new habits. I'm so excited! I'm so thankful to have so much support from my family and friends, they've really been wonderful! Now the tough part begins, and I'm ready!
December 26th 2006~ I had my sleep study and all went well. It was a long night but I did end up sleeping about 6 hours and got to go home around 4am because I couldn't sleep anymore. Wow, that glue all over your head sucks!
December 28th 2006~ I got a call from Theresa saying that they had read my sleep study already! She said it usually takes 2 weeks to get results so they were really fast! Everything was fine and I don't have sleep apnea. The doc that read it said I'm probably tired all the time because my cyrcadian(sp?) rythym is out of wack from working night shift. Do ya think? :)
January 19th 2007~ Today I have my pre-surgery appointment with the Dietician and the Therapuetic Rec therapist. I tried another of my protien supplement samples yesterday and I loved it. It's Protein Delite Chocolate Coconut and it's great as far as a protein supp's are. My Husband even liked it, go figure! I start my Low carb diet on Monday the 22nd. Boy I can't wait :) When I went to my appointment I asked the Dietician if Protein Delite was okay and she said it was but the kind without the chunks. Dang, that's what I liked about it! She said I could have it later when I'm on solids. I guess that makes sense. Weight 244.5
January 22nd 2007~ Started my Low Carb Diet today.
January 29th 2007~ Appointments with the Psychologist again, preop nurse, Pharmacist and Physical Therapist. Everything went well. Kathy is great! Weight 242.5
January 30th 2007~ Pre-surgery appointment with Dr. Christophersen Short and sweet. I didn't have any more questions so I said "see you on Monday!"
February 5th 2007 ~ SURGERY 9AM! Weight 238.2 lbs
