Surgeon Testimonial

Alan Geiss, MD
A dapper looking gentleman who seemed very knowledgable and confident in his practice. He was very kind, compassionate, and reassured me that we were a family and that I could call on him anytime with any questions no matter how little or big. I felt confident that I found the right surgeon, since he took his time to explain the entire procedure and follow up care plan with me. Was highly impressed with his knowledge of the procedure and the amount of procedures he has performed. In pre-op he assured me that all was going to be well, and that in no time I'd be recovering and on my way to weight loss! He was a doll, and I couldn't of asked for anyone else to have performed this on me. His staff is amazing and very kind. Syosset Hospital is a gem and the local community is so lucky to have such a wonderful facility in their community!!!!

Alright...at least I'm getting further along in the...
on May 28, 2008 12:41 pm
Well, my surgeon's office just called me to tell me that I need to redo my pulmonary consultation.  Alright, fair enough......I know the doctor very well, since I work in the ER and see him all the time.  I figured he'll get me in, and he did! I got an appt for June 6th! Which is amazing because this guy is pretty booked solid and you can only really get an appt a good month or two in advance.  So, I'm lucky!! Yay!

Then, to only find out he doesn't accept my insurance anymore...LOL! So, I'm going to have to shell out another $225 for a consult....geez! LOL! I don't care, I'll somehow rob Peter to pay Paul, because I need to do it in order to get on the schedule.

Ok, I won't look at this as a setback, only because it could've been a whole lot worse, right? And really I have been on pins and needles anxiously awaiting any phone call from the surgeon's office, so at least I know where I stand in scheduling, right?

I've decided........
on May 28, 2008 9:49 am
I've decided as of today I'm going to start some new habits.  I'm going to start conditioning myself for the Lap-band lifestyle.  I'm going to be mindful of drinking before and after meals, make sure I chew the hek out of food, and get my butt moving and go for a walk (no matter how much it hurts to walk).  I am going to think positive from now on and hope/pray for the best.  I guess if I start getting myself conditioned now, then I should be properly prepared post-op!!! The hardest part is going to be giving up soda yet again....LOL! I love my diet coke, and it's my coffee in the morning.  I've quit it before, and I'll quit it again.  The important thing is to remain upbeat and focused!!!

Frustration....
on May 27, 2008 10:03 pm
I'm just frustrated with insurance companies.  I went to the insurance portion of this site and found several other people with my same insurance who have had no problem at all getting approval for their surgeries.  Now, I understand each case is different, but c'mon.....to approve people with no comorbidities? Sigh....it's just not fair! Because I meet all criteria, but they won't approve me.....:( It's depressing.

The other week I tried to get life insurance through Aflac, and I was honest with all my comorbidities and at the very end the sales rep asks me my height and weight.  So, I tell her.  She then proceeded to tell me that Aflac had denied coverage for life insurance and I asked her if it was because of my comorbidities. And she replied, "Actually, no! It was your height and weight."  Then, I had the mortifying experience of having a fellow co-worker overhear and laugh.

I will try to remain focused and positive, but for now I just need to vent.  I promise I will become more positive in the near future.
