Surgeon Testimonial

Michael W. Blaney
2/2510: I had my first consultation with Dr. Blaney today and I feel confident with my decision to have wls. I felt comfortable even though I'm not a big talker. I really like the fact that he discuss the good and bad of wls and how your eating and exercise affect the amount of weight you lose. What I liked more about his practice versus Dr. Duncan is that Dr. Blaney and his staff are more personable. I feel comfortable with that and knowing that the team at the center is so encouraging lets me know that I can do this. He also likes his patients to read this book call Weightless surgery For Dummies.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I have struggle with my weight my entire Life. I began my first diet at the age of 9. I have used diet pills and diet to lose weight but it continues to return plus extra. My mom suggested I look into surgery awhile ago but I would always push the thought out of my mind but now I am to the point where I know I can not do this on my own anymore. I have struggled with depression which leads me to overeat and it is something that I am working on controlling. I live with individuals who are not supportive of my decision to have weight loss surgery but health is my only concern not their opinion.

Missing Food
on April 30, 2010 8:42 am
Hey Fam,

This week has been a little challenging. I had to cut down on my exercise for now because I think I was overdoing it. I walked every since day the week after surgery 1 to 2 miles per day. Wednesday morning, I woke up and realized I couldn't do it anymore so I took the day off, that's the best thing I could have done. Yesterday morning, I got up, walked my mile came home and rested the rest of the day. So today, I will do my mile this evening and tomorrow, I will skip. This will be my rountine until my endurance builds up.

My second wk, full liquids....and I am missing solid foods. These liquids are driving me crazy. I wanted some of my grandma's salmon balls yesterday and I didn't even like them pre-surgery but they smelled so yummy.. I go see the dr. and nut on tuesday and she said I can start on soft foods then, man I can't wait. I honestly understand how you all who do the liquid pre-op diet cheat now. I am not having any craving nor do I ever feel hungry, I am just tired of liquids whew....

I had my first wow momement today though. For those of us who look in the mirror and can't see certian body parts. I actually saw a certain part today in the mirror that I could not see preop. I wouldn't have noticed this if I had not taken pre op pics..Now I know why these pics are important and that made my day cause I know I am making progress!!

Hugs,
Shante

The Things family say
on April 26, 2010 10:47 am
Never thought I would have this much energy so soon after surgery. I love to walk now..haha..who'd thought..Anyway my family is always asking are you walking to much, to soon after surgery and My quick response is No' I'm suppose to. But the weirdest thing was, My aunt who went with me to surgery on wednesday seem me for the first time since surgery said, Wow, you're small...I'm like huh...I haven't weighted because I don't have a scale but I a definitely anxious to see what it says, but I won't be disappointed if its not a number because my gma also said the same thing and she said my stomach is smaller..lol.I don't see it yet but I do love this newfound energy...Now to my issues..Last night I dealt with this sharp stabbing pain in my leg that would not allow me to sleep matter of fact I feel it now but if I walk it disappears. I know it is not surgery related because I had it before surgery, but never like this. I haad asked my pcp about it and he siad it may be numbness but this is no numbness. I plan to talk to Dr, Blaney about it tomorrow, but I have researched online and talked with a friend who said it may be a vein that was't functionong properly, but all I know it is annoying and I plan on getting to the bottom of it and getting rid of it.....

First Night Home
on April 24, 2010 6:33 am
Last nights was tough, because I had to keep getting up to walk but I definitely got some sleep compared to those nights in the hospital. My main issue is liquids, I don't what to not get enough because I am not hungry. Its hard to drink water when you are already full from sipping. I am trying to do what my pouch says. When it says stop I do but will I become dehydrated soon?

I'm Hoome.......
on April 23, 2010 10:57 am
I came home today. I'm feeling good but tired. My surgery went well Wednesday, I got up and walked 5 laps that night. Yesterday they were calling me the roadrunner at the hospital because I walked a mile and a half, as you can probably guess I woke up this morning sore and tired but in good sprits. I plan to go walking later on today when the sun goes down some. As far as liquids, It has been tough because I drink a little and I am full, but I am sure it will get better. I see Dr. Blaney on Tuesday to get my drain removed.

Thanks Shante
