Today is July 13th.  I am feeling a little sad because I was scheduled to have RNY surgery tomorrow,  July 14, 2008.  I started this journey in March when I went to a seminar with a doctor I had researched only to find out he was not in my insurance network.  After talking to my insurance several times to make sure WLS was covered, even though I only have a BMI of 37.9, I was told it would with the comorbidities.  I have high blood pressure and was told that it would cover surgery with a doctor in network. So I found another doctor who was, and went to his seminar.  Before getting an appointment with the surgeon, I had to see a dietician and keep a food journal for a couple of weeks, and also have my psych evaluation.  I also had a stress test and a colonoscopy.  I finally got to see the doctor in June and was given the date of July 14th.  I was sooooo excited.  Now the fun part begins....trying to get insurance to cover.  A week or so after seeing the doctor in June, I got the call from his office that I had been denied.  It was a week later that we got the letter saying why.  Their reason was that I don't have the comorbitities, which I do!  So I had to wait another few days for my doctor to get in town and call my insurance.  I waited all day for the call from his office, only to find out that my insurance had been cancelled the day before. What!!  I was totally shocked and upset.  My husband had changed positions at work and that changed his insurance, unknown to him.  He called and we were able to keep the same insurance through Cobra, but it cost us a small fortune, which we overnighted to his benefits dept, so that the insurance would be reinstated.  The doctor called my insurance again to try to get me approved and guess what!  Denied again!   So now, we are waiting to see what I need to be approved.  My date was cancelled 5 days before my surgery date.   Now we wait!
