My name is Sherry, I live in Virginia. I have struggled with morbid obesity all of my life and have tried almost everything there is to lose it. I have decided to finally take control and live life to the fullest. I have a lot of health problems due to my obesity and was diagnosed last year with diabetes to top things off. I fell 3 years ago and injured a disc in my back that pushes on my sciatic nerve which causes constant pain in my lower back and legs. I'm praying that losing this weight will help with the pain from that and my arthritis. I also want to be able to get off of all of my meds for my various health problems. I won't know what to do with all the extra money when that happens. I have always been afraid of having this surgery done, but thanks to a co-worker's great success and the research I have done, I feel much more comfortable with the decision I have made. I look forward to this new adventure and can't wait to begin.
I survived my first Thanksgiving since having WLS. I had 15 people to my home and we had a great time. I used a small plate and was only able to eat a spoon or two of almost everything. So, I did not feel deprived and was very satisfied. My weight loss is going very slow, and I am still having pain and numbness from my knee surgery.
I adopted a new puppy. She was rescued from a puppy mill in West VA. She helps keep me motivated to walk. Her name is Taylor and she is adorable and very spoiled already.
I had my knee surgery on Monday and am recuperating fairly well. The only problem I am having is my leg has been numb since the surgery all the way to my toes which makes it difficult to try and walk as I can't feel my foot hit the floor too well. I go back to the surgeon on Monday, so will find out more then. I hope the numbness disappears by then. Otherwise, I am doing well.
I am going in to have Arthroscopy surgery on my left knee tomorrow. I actually need to have my knee replaced, but I am trying to prolong it. My Orthopedic Surgeon was thrilled with my weight loss. He said that if we wait until I get to my goal weight the recovery from knee replacement would be much easier for me. I'm praying that this surgery will help alleviate the problems I am having and the results will last until I have knee replacement surgery.
I've been at a stall for several weeks now. I know it's because I have been dealing with some family medical problems, and haven't been getting in my vitamins and protein like I should. Plus having to find something to eat at the hospital which is not very appetizing, and salads get old after a while. I ended up going to my Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday as my knee and hip having been really bothering me. My knee keeps going out on me everytime I stand up from a sitting position and I can't walk on it until it goes back in place. Well, the doctor told me that my knee needs to be replaced as it is in terrible shape. He gave me an injection of cortisone and wants me to come back in a month. He may schedule me for Arthroscopic Surgery to prolong replacing the knee. He was thrilled with my weight loss and said that I would have a better time at recovering if I lose the rest of my weight before deciding to have my knee replaced. So, he said that the best exercise would be riding a bike or stationary bike and water aerobics as anything else is just going to irritate the problem. I was pretty bummed about it at first, but this is just another hurdle that I have to get over to continue this amazing journey. Wish me luck.
I just have to share this. Yesterday was my birthday and my sisters took me to Charles Town Races and Slots for the weekend. They booked the V.I.P. Suite; and I had a great time. My best friend came with us and then some of my friends from work met us up there. We all had so much fun. This was my first time there, and I don't know if it was beginners luck or what, but I actually came home a winner! I took yesterday off and one of my friends took me to the movies, then I went to my parents house and had dinner with them. I returned to work today and was given a big beautiful bouquet of red roses and daises. I am so blessed to have such a large group of loving, caring people in my life. I work with an awesome group of people.
