Surgeon Testimonial

Ranjan Sudan, M.D.
I first saw Dr Sudan 7 yrs ago when I first tried to get my surgery. However at that time our ins had an exclusion on any kind of WLS. After several appeals, I couldn't take the rollercoaster ride any long and gave up.rnrnStarted the process all over again when we had a different ins carrier. That was approx 2+ yrs ago. Was very impressed with Dr Sudan previously when I had seen him and gone to his seminar. So naturally went back to him this time.rnrnHe has been great. Is the head of Creighton Hosp's bariatric program. One of the best bariatric surgeons in the country. Totally at ease with him and feel sure that I'm in the best hands I could be.rnrnHis staff are super, very professional, caring and willing to help you in any way they can thru this whole process.rnrnShelly, the Dietitian. Instantly liked her, funny and very informative. Was evident that she genuinly cares about you and what all you will be going thru in this process.rnrnAll aspects of before, during and aftercare were throughly covered. As well as risks involved. rnrnOverall opinion, I believe he is very professional and knowlegeable as a bariatric surgeon. Have no reservations of putting my life in his hands for my surgery and followup care.rnrnWill further update my impressions as my journey continues. As well as anything that I thought could have been better, or improved upon.rnrnFeb 18thrnHad my surgery on Feb 14th 07. Impressions on Dr Sudan.....I have to say I'm Very impressed with him. He's very through, and compassionate. So far don't see that changing. He gives off confidence, but not arrogance. I like that, and being a nurse I'v seen my share of arrogant Doctors. Very happy to be in his hands for this journy. Dr Silver, she was so nice as well. rn

Newest Update. Deb has lost over 45 pounds so far, now about 6 weeks out. She has done wonderfully, following All the rules, and didn't even taste real food till her dietitian approved it. She walks regularly and is working up to more activity in the future. She has felt weak at times but we believe that is normal at right now. This weekend she had trouble getting pills down for the first time, possible stricture and had foamies. Worried, but she will see her surgeon for the 6 wk check up in two days so she will probably work through it as people suggest on forums. Thank goodness we have everyone and their experiences to ease our minds and advise possible solutions. She'll be fine, Just Fine. Ahhhh. So glad we are Here in the process, AFTER surgery. The roller coaster before approval and then the wait till surgery take quite a toll. Thanks everyone for your support. Good Luck all. Way to Go, SIS!

So happy to report that my sister is doing GREAT. She won't blow her own horn much but she is handling the ups and downs just wonderfully. Her attitude is so Good, and I'm so proud of her. Deb is healing exceptionally well and quickly. She actually forgets she had the surery on Valentines Day, wow, and she has to remind herself that she is actually on the other side and not still wishing, praying, and Waiting, that surgery will be soon. She has had some head hunger already, but no real doubts, but I know she will be looking forward to real food in small qualtities as she is allowed to have it. We'll do all we can to find alternate activities and good habits to cultivate in the future; I can hardly wait. She has lost 23 pounds already, including pre-op loss, so she is doing SO well. Nebraska is still pretty cold but she is going out walking every day once or twice if it is possible. YAHOO!

Had my 6 wk follow up vist yesterday.  WOO HOO, I'm doing good, Dr Sudan was happy, and the nutritious said everything going great.  Even tho I did start my stage 4 diet a little ahead of schedule.  She said as long as I'm tolerating it, ok but to go slow and chew chew chew.

Dr Sudan didn't think that the problem that I had over the week-end and monday was from a stricture even tho he said they can happen this soon.  Told me to just keep track and if it seems to be happening more to let him know and they will scope me to check.  I'm happy to say so far hasn't happened again soooooo maybe not.

OK I'm down 50# now. happy dance happy dance, of course 13# were pre-op but I couldn't be more thrilled.  Ask him how long I can expect this wt kind of wt loss and he said 6 - 9 months.  WOW, I think I'll stop before I become another Twiggy LOL for those of you who even remember who she was.  Hope everyone is doing well and having a great week.

Starting to worry a little that I might have a stricture.  Had problems this morning when I took some of my pills with my protein drink.  Pain and foamies.  See my surgeon on Wed the 28th so see what he says then.  Have a call out to his nurse also, but think I'll stay pretty close to just liquids until I see him.  Will be interesting to see how my evening pills go down.  Hope everyone is having a good week.

Well today is officially 1 month post-op.  I'v lost 13 3/4 inches, and 39# total with 26# post-op.  Hopefully will have 1 month pics on yet today.  Feeling good, haven't had any problems with eating so far.  But only have liquids, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, and haven't tried eggs yet.  So wonderful to have some foods again.  Will try and keep you updated on how everything is going.

Talked with Shelly my dietitian fri afternoon.  YAHOOO she said I could start to SLOWLY add soft foods.  Sooooo happy.

Went to store yesterday and got some sf pudding, eggs, and cottage cheese.  Opted for the cottage cheese last night.  LOL, that 1/4 cup looked so small.  But mashed it up add my salt & pepper, OH I was in heaven, it tasted so good.  I ate it really slow, stopped when I felt full.  Took me just short of an hour to eat it.  Was Plenty to eat.  All went well so very happy about that as well.

One of the things that really amazes me now is how much I savor the flavors of what I'm drinking or eating with each drink/bite.  Versus before when I tasted the first bite and then just shoved it in to get that full feeling.  This surgery is SO amazing.  What a wonderful tool to have to help us get normal habit's back, and healthier.  Thank you God.
