Surgeon Testimonial

David Lauter M.D.
Switched to Dr. Lauter, He' seems super cool, and I'm excited to be with his office. He submitted my stuff to insurance ASAP, and says he can get me in before the new year. Love it!

----------------------------------------------
I was going to use Dr. Bright, and would if his office hadn't messed up!
-----
MY stepmother used him on her Gastric bypass and loved him. I've been told he's very good at the surgery and post op care. He's got a wonderful bedside manner as well.

They are very thorough on their process and want you to have insurance taken care of prior to the surgery consult which I agree with. Have all the things done prior to the consult, such as psych evaluation, sleep study test and whatever your insurance requires for consideration of the surgery.

Going to COURT!
on December 16, 2007 3:41 pm
All, I can start to say is GRRRR.

So after 6mons of being told that my insurance plan covered Gastric Bypass Surgery. I was told via Dr. Lauter's secretary that it was an exclusion on our plan. I said "It is not, they have told me from day one it was covered on my plan, and I've called over 38+ times to be told they were waiting on my papers for pre-determination.

So finally after Morgan my husband, and Dr. Lauters office, sent my papers to inusrance. (all 90+ pages of medical documentation) did they not look at anything but the cover letter saying, Pre-determination for Gastric Bypass surgery. They said. "Its not covered, its an exclusion." without even reading the papers.  Well after my 3rd appeal, still no surgery. I was scheduled for surgery Tuesday, but unfortunately have to cancel it due to inability to pay, and no coverage.

We' are taking Lumenos the insurance company to court.
We talked to my husband's employer and the insurance broker, and both are backing us up. They feel that Lumenos mislead and falsely informed me leading me to multiple doctor appointments un-nessessary other than for the surgery, and mental anguish of severe depression when I already was depressed, and possible relapses of Wegener's Granulomatosis due to  stress.

Here's the story!
On July 24th, I called to find out about diagnostic code 278.1 and procedure code 43846. The customer service rep said, yes we cover that surgery, that all I needed was the required documentation for pre-approval/pre-determination. She informed me of what papers and services were needed to get the determination going and to go in my favor. (hence the 90+pages of my medical co-morbidities and appts )

I called at least 1-4 times a week every week it seemed (total average was 38+ times in July - Nov 2007.  I called again late July to again make sure that codes 278.1 and 43846 are covered. When again I was informed that yes it was.

In the 38 times I called, they never told me it was an exclusion.
They always mentioned that my stuff wasn't there yet and as soon as it was it would be sent out to pre-determination.
When they finally got the papers in Nov 2007. It  wasn't even glanced at. They said. Oops its not covered.

So we had done.
Psych Consult
Sleep Apnea test
2 Surgical Consults
Depression consult (anti-depressants)
Nutritionist
Blood Tests
and a few other things.
I called 38+ times about the gastric bypass surgery.

Insurance says, they are sorry and they told me wrong, but that they will not pay for it/their mistake.

So off to court we go to continue the fight!!!
Wish us luck.

Unfortunately we won't be having the surgery this year, but we are fighting for it and more anyways.

P.S Now They think I have carpel tunnel (might need surgery on that too.)

Dr. Lauter now!
on November 6, 2007 2:51 pm
While I love Dr. Bright and his wonderful personality, I have been very upset with the process of consult-surgery. I had my appt on Sept 26, 2007 and the doctor told me he thought I was a perfect candidate.  He also said he was going to put my information at the top of the list and get me in asap, around Nov or December.

I was informed officially today, that THEY have NOT yet submitted my information to insurance as of today on Nov 6, 2007. I was upset to find out that the coordinator said that even if back in September I had been pre-approved he wouldn't do the surgery till Feb 08. So there was no point in trying.   However I'm super annoyed that no one processed my pre-approval, when Dr. Bright said he would. So now 1.5months after my consult they still have not submitted my info for pre-determination. UGG.

So I called around. I got a hold of Kelly, of Dr. Lauter's office, and I LOVE her. She was so helpful and informed me that they could get me in before the new year and have the surgery before my insurance is done in December.  Sooooooooooooooooooooo... here we go.

We leave Friday morning for Bellevue  WA, and have a surgical consult, and  schedule a surgery date. We will be finally getting the surgery done. Lets just hope Lumenos comes through and approves the surgery.

Yay, after a depressed day with Rockwood Clinic, I'm now a happy camper with Dr. Lauter's office!

APPROVED!!! Nov or Dec
on September 30, 2007 10:06 pm
Dr Bright, was amazing. He agreed that I needed the surgery and would benefit medically from it. He's going to squeeze me in Nov or Dec this year,  2007.

I'm so excited.

He was impressed with my booklet of medical papers and all my labs. I was proud of myself also. :-)

However he said, his schedule/coordinator, is out till mid october, and to give her a call before halloween and find out my official date!

I'm on cloud nine.
Healthy again!!!!!!!

I can't wait.

So Ready
on September 21, 2007 3:52 pm
I had my Pysch Consult  two weeks ago. I was cleared and and deemed pyschologically comp. to have the surgery. They also mentioned they felt it would enhance my self esteem and physical situations.

I had my blood checked on tuesday, to find out I'm in Complete Remission with my Wegener's Granulomatosis. I also Have perfect scores for my health. Which I'm excited about cause the only elevated marker was my ESR/Sed rate. It was 30 vs 10-20 However I'm now on antibotics because on tuesday I had a nasty sinus infection.

So Blood work is clear.

Stuff I have for my Surgical Consult on Thursday Sept 27th.

Psych evaluation
Weight Charts from 1995-2007
Weight Watchers Documentation
Cholecystectomy Document (gall bladder surgery)
PCOS documentation.
Hypertenion Documentation.
Current Blood Lab Results.

I'm so ready!
Thursday is my Surgical Consult in Spokane WA.  My husband will be driving me that morning and there to assist and hear what will be happening. We will find out on THURSDAY, if they will do the surgery and when.

GREAT NEWS!!!!  Our insurance covers 100%. We have paid our out of pocket to full, and all medical is covered 100% from now on, so I'm going to inform them of that. However thats only till Jan 1, 2008. So surgery will need to be prior to the New year. My insurance is AWESOME at payout in prompt, so I hope that will be a good feedback!

Did I mention, I'm ready????? I'm so excited.
