Surgeon Testimonial

Brian S. Boe, M.D.
I first met Dr. Boe at my consult. He was great! He explained everything in detail and answered all questions. I knew that he was the one I wanted to do my surgery, he was very knowledgeable and made feel very comfortable. He was soft spoken and very patient with me. My impression only got beter the more I got to know him. The office staff is great! Very nice, informative and you always feel like you are the most important person they are seeing that day. Their is nothing that I didn't like about Dr. Boe. He is truly the best. Thank you for assisting in my new life!

May 2nd Barix Support Group
on April 28, 2009 1:39 pm
I am getting so excited about Saturday's meeting. I hope everyone is able to bring their most supportive person to this meeting, or bring the person that you would  like to support  you to ask questions and find out what it takes to be a good support person.  I know that I didn't get this far without plenty of support, and my hubby is also looking forward to meeting all of you. My other family who keep me going in the right direction.  Remember the meeting is from 12 to 4 pm and it would be great to have the largest group we have had yet. Remember : "Success is focusing on the full power of all you are and on what you have a burning desire to achieve"

My Story

My journey began in February of "08" when I decided I was to important to live a life of being obese. I was 327lbs and 5ft 8in when I first met Dr. Boe at my consult. It was a bit intimidating but Dr. Boe made me feel very comfortable. When I met Br. Boe one on one to discuss my options I was even more sure that this was the right thing to do. He answered all my questions and discussed all my options in detail. I took all the information with me discussed it that night with my husband and decided that the Lap Band was the right procedure for me. I couldn't wait! It had been about 25 years since I could see my feet looking straight downand I couldn't imagine what that would feel like again. When I got the call from the Barix Clinic that my insurance approved the surgery I will never forget the feeling of relief. I was not going to spend another day wondering what my life would be like as a normal weight person, I scheduled my surgery for May 14, 2008. It couldn't come soon enough! I got all my pre-op testing done within a few weeks the Physiological evaluation, all my blood work and my primary care Dr. approval.  Life was good until April 20, 2008 when my husband and I got a phone call from the hospital Where my father-in law had been for the past 4weeks recovering from a Gaul bladder surgery. He went into cardiac arrest and passed away three days later after the painful process of removing him from the vent.  Now this was three weeks before my scheduled surgery date, my BMI went up and so did my weight by 7lbs, I was in jeopardy of having my surgery canceled.  I was in tears because I was so ready for this. Dr. Boe agreed to continue as long as I lost weight over my 10 days of liquid diet and my A1-C came back under 9 which It did and I did lose 13lbs before my surgery. The day of my surgery 5am couldn't come soon enough!  I don't think I slept at all I just kept watching the clock all night waiting for the alarm to go off so I could get in the shower and head up to the Barix Clinic.  I felt that this day was the first day of the rest of my life. The surgery went great. I was out in in the recovery room within 45 minutes. The pain was not even that bad the only problem I had was comming out of the anesthesia I was vomiting for an hour or so.

I came home the next afternoon and started my new life which was liquid diet for the next ten days, then pureed foods for 2 weeks then soft foods for 2 weeks and then solid foods. My post-op visit was 2 weeks after my surgery and it was great I lost another 20 lbs and because I did so well I was able to begin soft foods a week early.  It was great to Have such great results so soon, much faster than I anticipated. I knew that the average expected weight loss was three to five pounds per month and here I am loosing about 12 to 15 pounds a month.  One of the biggest reasons that I was loosing so fast was because I had made the choice before surgery to change some of the poor eating habits and the poor food choices IE: flour and sugar. I was never going to put anything in my mouth that was made with flour of any kind including bread, pasta, wraps, etc. and if the food I was eating had any unnatural sugar in it I wouldn't eat it. Because of those extreme choices I have lost over 100lbs in 11 months I went from a size 30 to a size 18 and they are now big on me. It has been such an amazing journey with no regrets! I still haven't had flour or unnatural sugars and to tell you the truth I do not miss it at all! I attend parties, weddings and other events where their are all the foods that I used to love to eat and I am OK with it, I don't have to get out of the room or avoid people eating cake I usually take my cooler with me packed with the food I now enjoy and are the right portion size for me.  Life is so good now, I am able to keep up with my 3yr old, 2yr. old, 5month old and 3 month old grandchildren  with no problem!  I truly have a new lease on life. People I haven't seen in the past year don't know who I am and they are shocked. I am also treated differently in the industry ( I am a Real Estate agent) which gets me angry sometimes because I am still the same person, but nevertheless it has made a difference.  I am now the leader of the support group at the Barix Clinic in Langhorn for the Gastric Lap-Band group, and I love it.  I will continue to encourage anyone considering Bariatric surgery, DON'T WAIT!  You have to much life to live. It was the best and most responsible decision I ever made in my life.

I will continue to journal on this wounderful journey that I am on!
