Surgeon Testimonial

Stephen V. Hamn M.D. F.A.C.S
My initial consultation with Dr. Hamn was what I expected. I had read he was a very to-the-point no non-sense kind of guy and that's what he was. I went to his seminar and he was honest and to the point regarding the different surgeries and the risks. No coddling, which is fine with me. I was coddled my whole life I don't need it now. I loved the office staff. Everyone there was so nice. Sheryl the office coordinator has been so helpful and prompt with getting back to me with everything.

5 weeks Post Op
on August 28, 2007 5:06 pm

I'm not very good at posting, obviously.  I had surgery July 30, 2007.  I am now 5 weeks post op and I feel like I'm doing well.  The surgery went fairly well, considering I had a tube in my nose for 2 days and wasn't able to drink anything or even have ice chips until it came out.  I figure that's not something that could be helped, just part of it!  I survived.  I was in the hospital for 4 days, it was sure nice to go home.  I missed all my babies terribly (and yes, my babies are my 3 dogs and 1 cat!).  They were glad their Mom was home.

Things are going very fast
on July 9, 2007 4:39 pm
I went to the seminar with Dr. Hamn June 27.  July 5 I get a call from Sheryl telling me my insurance company has approved my surgery.  The first date she has available is July 30.  That is 3 weeks and 2 days away.  I was expecting things to take a lot longer.  It's great and I'm excited but I had no idea it would be this soon!  I prayed about this long and hard and I put it in God's hands and it's all falling into place very quickly!

My Story

Well here is the start of my story.  I have researched and researched until I'm blue in the face.  I never thought I would be writing my story for other to read, but here I am.  Maybe this is theraputic for me.  I tend to be very private, at the same time, it's nice to write out my feelings.
I am 35 years old.  I have a wonderful husband whom I have been married to for 15 months.
I have had issues with my weight as long as I can remember, once I hit about 13.  In high school I was always bigger than everyone else, although when I look back at the pictures, I wasn't that big ... but compared to all the anorexic-looking girls, I was.  My self image has always been low, no matter how many times my Mom told me I was pretty and nice things like that, I always saw myself as fat.  As I got older I thinned out a little after high school.  I got married when I turned 21 and things went downhill from there.  The way we ate was terrible and the fact he wanted french fries with everything didn't help.  Well the more unhappy I was the bigger I seemed to get.  I guess the food replaced him always being gone.  Needless to say, I was soon divorced after a few years.  We are all allowed one "mistake" relationship, so I've been told.  LOL  I ballooned up to 190 pounds by the time I heard about phen-fen and went to the doctor.  I seriously had no idea how big I had gotten until I started looking at pictures (after the fact).  At 5 foot tall, 190 pounds looks more like 300 pounds, not a pretty sight.  The combination of my divorce and phen-fen was great on the ol' figure.  Oh yeah, I lost a lot of weight and then some, the most unhealthy way, but who knew back then.  Even if I had known, I'm not sure I would have cared.  I just found out my husband had an affair, which he admitted to and he thought made it ok ... so I was feeling pretty low, phen-fen was my friend for a couple years.  Since then I've been through some ups and downs and I have been diagnosed with PCOS, which doesn't help with the weight loss at all.  I decided to go off my bc pills to see if I had PCOS and sure enough I did and I also had the extra 50 pounds I had gained during the year I was getting all the tests done to find out if I had PCOS.  I got back on bc pills since they say that is the "treatment" and i should be "normal".  Yeah, whatever.  There is no such thing as normal for me.  I am now at around 200-205, depending on what day you catch me on.  Again, 5 foot tall and 200 pounds is now looking more like 400 pounds.  I hate it!!  I have tried every diet known to man, I work out (until lately).  You name it I've done it and nothing, nothing, nothing.  I'm sure being 35 isn't helping either.  The odds are against me but I'm not giving up.  TO BE CONTINUED ...
