The first article was really interesting and I think doctors sometimes have blinders on when treating patient's individual symptoms instead of putting them together to see if there's a better solution.

The second article... On the surface it appears that the court doctor has a bias against this particular person but I want to be wrong. I would hope an official in that position wouldn't abuse their power in that way. It's commendable that the father lost almost 200lbs on his own and stopped using cannabis for himself and his kids. Unfortunately, I think there's more to this than can be gleaned from the short article.

the second one is very disturbing....they should be looking at people who are absolutely not fit to be parents for reasons other than obesity. My mother was obese when I was a child and it never interfered with any part of my growing up or her mothering me. was considered obese and I am very good with my children and have no problems with raising them. They should be praising this man for losing that amount of weight on his own WITHOUT surgery...kudos to him, I don't even know him and I am proud of him!!! The courts should just be proud that this man is willing to fight for his kids whereas quite a few men aren't even willing to HELP raise their kids let alone fight for full custody. DISGUSTING!!!

WOW, on both counts!

I think the first article has some cogent arguments in it but the second one leaves me breathless with rage... does that mean that parents with asthma, who are paraplegic, or those with a million other health problems that could make it very tough to keep up with their kids are "unfit" to be parents???? Good gracious, we do love to knock the fatties though because they are clearly just bad and stupid and lazy and .... well there are other words I've heard over the years... many of them.
Fat is not a freakin question of morality ok? When will the world get that???

I have read them both as well....it doesn't surprise me though.....everyone is bias of obese. Canada is a country where the doctors have no problems getting you set up for a sex change and it's fully covered , but when it comes to gastric bypass that could save a life, then it's a big round about, and if your lucky to have your doctor to refer you....it's years on a waiting list....I just don't get it

wow, what powerful articles. I am very concerned that this father may indeed not regain custody of his children, not just because of his weight issues. The article did mention several other issues. Putting myself in his shoes I have a lot of empathy for him as to taking off weight. However, the legal system has no business interfering in our private lives. What is going to be the final factor that causes each and every one of us to lose all rights? This week its weight issues, what will next week be?
