HI
My name is Cindy. I'm a 49 year old mother of 3 and wife. I've been overweight most all my life. But gained most of it while having babies. My weight has been an issue in many areas of my life. I've tried every diet known to man and I've lost and regained and lost and regained several times over the years. I think I have my whole system screwed up because of all the dieting. I have tried for the last 3 years to have surgery - but my insurance company denied my request every time, Saying I was too healthy. I have no health problems. The only medication I take is a NSAID for my arthritis in my knee.
So last month I decided I was going to just bite the bullet and pay for this surgery myself. And now I'm just geeked!! I can't wait to have the surgery and start my new journey. I can't wait for 'weight' not to be an issue anymore. I've decided not to tell to many people so you guys are my outlet.. Thanks for being here for me and letting me go throught this journey with you.
I'm at my heaviest right now 3/23/11 - 307
My goal weight is 150

Life is SOOOOO GOOD!!!
on September 21, 2011 12:57 pm
I just LOVE my new sleeve and new lifestyle. I'm now down 56 pounds and I actually feel like doing things. I'm down 4 pants sizes and 3 blouse sizes. People are really noticing as well. I just feel so darn good. I wish I would have done this 15 years ago. We were out in Arizona this past week and I was able to keep up on the golf courses out there. Which is tough cause being in the mountains all the courses are very hilly. We had a great time!
I love the way I eat now - cause I don't have to even think about it. When it's time to eat - I grab protein and I'm good to go. I don't feel bad about what I put in my mouth. And if I want something not so healthy - I eat it. I don't feel at all like I'm dieting. I'm just eating normal for the new me. It's so great!
If you're reading this and in the "thinking about it" stage - DO IT, DO IT, DO IT.... you'll feel so much better.

It's been awhile..

Hello everyone!
I know it's been awhile since I've blogged. But it's summer and life is busy. I am still feeling GREAT! Getting very used to my new sleeve. I think I've adapted well.
As of Aug. 12th I've lost 49 pounds - basically that is 49 pounds in just 3 months time. I'm VERY happy with that.

Life is good! Not much to report. Except I'm now walking the first 9 holes of the golf course without issue :)

My new life
on June 23, 2011 8:50 am
Well I'm 5 weeks out as of yesterday. ( june 22) I go back to the doctor for my 6 week check up next week Friday ( July 1)
I've been doing more and more solid foods and things have been going really well. I've never over eaten or thrown up. I do get the hiccops alot :) I think that is because I'm still eating too fast. I just haven't learned how to slow down yet. But that will come, it's getting better every day.

Since starting on more solid foods - I'm finding it harder to get in all my liquids. Partly because of the 15/45 rule - I average about 60 oz a day. But I think another part of that is also that I'm just not a thirsty person. I don't feel thirsty ever. So drinking my water is tough because I have to force it down.
I use things like hot teas or hot water with a little lemon - but I still find that at 9:30 at night I'm still trying to get my water in. But I'm not worried about it, I just keep trying~

Life is good - I'm getting very used to how much my sleeve can hold. I feel satisified and never hungry.
I'm loosing slowly - and that's ok. Today I'm down another pant size. I do my best to stay off the scale so as not to get discouraged.
This has been a GREAT experience in my life.

Almost 4 weeks post-op
on June 13, 2011 2:00 pm
I feel really good. I'm able to eat all the mushy stuff without an issue. My weight is at a stall right now. I have been for about a week. But that's ok - it's to be expected. My body just needs to catch on to what I'm doing to it.
Starting Wednesday I can add some different foods into my diet. Like canned Chicken and Turkey, eggs, Mayo, seafood, cheese. So that will be a nice change. Although I often forget to eat, so I'm not sure how much help it's going to be. It's so funny - cause I don't even think about food. So I forget to eat. Never thought I'd be able to say, " I don't even think about food" ... :)
Life is good. Getting some golf in and bike riding. Still having some knee issues - but my feet are a bunch better. I'm hoping my knees will catch up soon.
Wish I would have done this 10 years ago or more.

2 weeks post-op
on June 3, 2011 9:18 am
I went to the doctor yesterday for my 2 week check up. I've lost 25.5 pounds since the start of my Pre-op on the 4th of May. I'm still feeling really good. The Dietitian advanced my diet to things like Cottage cheese, refried beans, potaotoes, pureed things - for the next 2 weeks. Then at week 5 I can add in things like canned or ground chicken, turkey and ham, Eggs, Cheese.etc.
Then I will go in for my 6 week check up on July 1st. Then I should be released for all foods as tolerated.

I tried oatmeal today - that was a little too heavy. So I'll wait and try that in a few weeks. I had refried beans last night and those were really good.

Pretty much life is back to normal. Just playing with the food thing for the next few weeks. I feel great!

My Story

I am 49 years old and have been married for 31 years. I'm a mother of 3 grown children, 2 of which still live home. I have struggled with my weight since the 3 grade. I stayed skinny in High School because I marched in the band and swam on the school swim team (2-4 miles a day)
When I got married and started having babies is when my real issue with weight began. Since the birth of my first child 28 years ago I have been
obese.
Like most of you - I have tried every diet known to man. I've lost and gained and lost and gained so many times I've lost count.
I've been praying to be able to have surgery for a number of years now. But my prayers were not answered until a month ago.
So now I'm moving forward. I'm praying for a first of May surgery date.
I just can't wait to let the person that has been hiding inside of this fat body come out. I'm a happy go lucky, fun loving, high spirited person. But I hold that part of my personality back because I'm so self concious of being fat. I don't like myself very much right now. And I just know that this surgery is the tool that I need to bring back the real me.
I'm looking forward to 2011
