Surgeon Testimonial

Alexander Onopchenko, M.D.
I watched Dr. Onopchenko's Webinar about surgical weight loss procedures and was very impressed with the amount of information that was presented. He put everything into laymens terms so that it is understandable. He is very knowledgeable and seems to be very good at what he does. He requires all his prospective patients to attend a seminar before you can make an appointment for your initial consultation. He is very concerned about informing his patients. I am impressed with Dr. Onopchenko and his program. My intial consultation is scheduled for 5/8/06. I look forward to meeting with him. I will update after my consult.rnrnrnrn8/11/06rnJust a quick update about Dr. O and his staff. When I met Dr. O I was very impressed with his demeanor and his concern for me. He was very open to questions and I did not feel rushed. I walked away feeling that I had made a good decision in chosing him to be my surgeon. Now a word about his staff. -- These people are wonderful. I have called the office several times with questions and was never made to feel that I was being a bother to whomever I spoke to. I have gone into the office to drop off paperwork and the ladies have gone out of their way to help me with what I needed to do in order to get all of my pre-op testing done. Kathy even called the sleep lab while I was in her office and gave me the phone so that I could set up an appt. This on a day when I was getting the runaround from my insurance company and was not having a good day. I would say that Dr. O is well represented by his staff, Kathy, Doreen, Laurie, Mary Beth are all a compliment to him. And that says a lot.

I cannot belive that it has actually been a year since my surgery and almost a year since my last post. I don't know how I let that happen.
This past year has been quite and experience. I am now so much healthier than I was prior to surgery; not to mention happier. I am no longer taking any medication for diabetes or high blood pressure. Yesssssssssss! To date, I have lost 101 lbs. I can not believe it. I have gone down 4 sizes in my clothes. Most importantly, I just feel better. I have got to go, but just wanted to post I quick update. I will post again soon.

Well, this morning I had my first experience with throwing up! Not fun. :-) I was taking my vitamins and other meds and I think that I drank the liquids down too fast; it came back up. A few minutes later I was stuck on the toilet and felt very flushed and weak. I guess that this is dumping for me? Oh well I have not lost any weight in the last few days in fact I have gained a pound according to my scale this morning. Hopefully, this is due to the fact that I started my period on 1/25 and I also started on pureed foods on the 25th. I keep telling myself that it is not good to weigh myself so much, but I can't seem to help getting on the scale. I will try not to weigh again until next Thrusday when I go to see Dr. O for my 1 month check-up.

On a lighter side, I am able to wear clothes that I have in my closet that I could not think of getting into before surgery. On Sunday I went to church for the first time since my surgery and I was able to wear one of my favorite suits that I haven't been able to wear since 2005. Wow! That felt good. Down 21lbs since surgery, 32 since I first saw Dr.O in May 2006.

Also I have been able to eat scrambled eggs, pureed ground chicken, refried beans, yogurt, and lowfat cheese without a problem. I do still have cravings for food(head hunger I know) but so far I have been able to deal with that. I must say that I have questioned my decision to have this surgery in the past weeks when I just wanted to be able to drink a glass of water without having to remember not to drink too fast and not to drink too much at once. Times when all I wanted was a bite of a sandwich. However, all things considered I know that I made the right decison. I'm just praying and asking God to take me through this. Take care all. Until next time.

Hello all.

I am doing well and just trying to get used new eating habits. It still amazes me that I am eating so little but not hungry. I do have head hunger at times (I would love to have a hot dog with potatoe chips) but that is getting better.

I went to see my surgeon last week for the 1 wk follow up appointment. He said that I was doing great. My weight was 275.5 so that is a loss of 12.5lbs since I saw him on 1/4/07 for my final pre-op appt. I keep saying to myself that I am not going to weigh myself until I go back to see the surgeon but somehow I can't help myself. I got on the scale this moring and I am 266 that is another 9.5lbs for a total of 22lbs lost. I am so very happy about that.

I have just moved in the puree stage of my diet. I have had some unpleasant experiences with food. Thankfully, I have not been nauseous to the point that I have had to throw up but I have come close. Things do taste different. Anything that is sweet(sugar-free jello) tastes extra sweet. I was able to eat a soft scrambled egg for breakfast this morning. That was great. It stayed down with no problems.

I am finding that I am still very tired. I guess that it will just take time to build my strength. But overall I feel great. At this point I am glad that I did this. I am no longer on medication for diabetes. My sugars have been ranging from 84 to 117 post-op as oppossed to 220-320 pre-op. That is a big plus. I will update later.

Hello everyone. I am so sorry that I haven't kept my journal up to date. It just seems like November and December flew by in a blur. I was so busy at work and with family and friends during the holidays!! Sorry, Sorry, Sorry!!

Well, I had my gastric bypass surgery on 1/9/07. Everything went very well. Dr. O says that I am doing great. I came home from the hospital yesterday. I am feeling good. I am sore but pain medication works wonders. I am trying get used to my new stomach pouch and knowing when I am full. The clear liquid diet is getting to me but I know that it will all pay off. I have a lot of gas, but that is getting better. Last nigt it was difficult to get comfortable in the bed so I ended up sleeping in the recliner for most of the night. I am finding that I feel a little better each day. Well I have to sign off now. I will update more later.

Drum Roll Please!! My surgery date is January 9, 2007. I am happy with that. November and December are hetic times for me at work. I didn't want to be out having had surgery and worrying about what is going on at work, so January is good for me. I am very excited and can't wait to get this show on the road.
