Surgeon Testimonial

Michael Barker
What can I say about Dr Barker, I will first say that I am truly upset that he is currently away on assignment and I have to be followed up by his colleague that I am not happy with at all. He is a VERY knowledgeable person, is kind, hard working and will not stop till he knows you are healthy. Not only did he do my RNY but he saved my life from a bile leak from my gall bladder. In the beginning I was not too sure about him, he is straight and narrow but the man knows his stuff. I noticed after the surgery itself he loosened up a bit more, I loved the fact that he never set a "goal" weight but told me to strive for a healthy BMI. Would I recommend him to someone, Yes and in fact I do everytime I talk about my surgery. Now to figure a way to get rid of the surgeon I have now, really dont like her at all, but that is for another post.

Hello, I am Stacey. I have been a Navy wife now for 10 years and would not change any bit of it. I have four children and they drive me nuts.
I have fought with my weight ever since I had my second child. At my highest I was 220. When it really hit me that I was super duper fat, I attempted to walk up the Cape Hatteras light house and I couldnt do it. Really made me wake up and take focus on my life. Before surgery I was borderline Hypertensive, diabetic, have severely high cholesterol and my asthma was not under control. I am almost 3 weeks out and I am working on my cholesterol and my asthma. I look forward to this journey.

UGH!
on September 21, 2010 8:15 am

Well I now have put myself in some pain. I want to say before I go any further, that after surgery I was in a tremendous amount of pain. Many people have told me that the next day they were shopping, this was not the case for me. I could barely move for a week and a half and found out that a few days after I got home I was allergic to Lortab, when I called the dr's office to let them know, they told me to only take tylenol... The pain on some days was sever and others it was minimal. On my 2 week appt I did refuse any pain meds because I dont like taking them.As of yesterday I was doing wonderful, Now I wish I had taken him up on his offer.

The story goes like this, I suffered an asthma attack late last night. I always keep my inhaler on my night stand for easy access. Well last night as I twisted my body and attempted to roll over to retrieve this inhaler, I felt this HORRIBLE pain in my abdomin. It was a stabbing pain and would not go away. I finally fell back asleep and of course as I woke to get the kids to school, I felt horrible, pain and nausea. Why did I twist this way, I have no flippin clue just know I needed my medicine.
So later this morning I get a call for my oldest sons school to come and pick him up. As I get into my van, I feel it again, I must have twisted or something, I dont know but I had tears in my eyes.
I have a call in to my surgeons office but I cant guarantee they will get back to me in a timely manner, gotta love the military. Until then, I am sitting on my a$$ and doing absolutely nothing. I will walk to the bus stop to get my son just to see how it goes, other than that, NOTHING!

Days have no end
on September 20, 2010 10:56 am
Went last week for my 2 week post op and had a good meeting. I was 13 pounds down since surgery. My Doc even smiled (made me jump a little , he never smiles)
Definately told him if I never drink another protein shake, it will be way too soon. Over all I had a great visit. I go back Oct 1 for my 4 week.
Now here I am allowed only what is considered soft foods and I am completely unsatisfied with them. I love my yogurt and cottage cheese but damn there has to be more to what I can have with this blasted diet. I tried couscous, Yea, it came up as soon as it went down. I cant wait for the time comes and I can have something else. I do not want to push it very far but anything other than cottage cheese, cheese sticks and greek yogurt. The staff at NMCP will give you a short list of approved foods but never go into any real detail, I wish I could figure them out. Anyway, the days are melting into themselves and it seems as if it is the same thing over and over and over. I will make it. I will not fail. Failure is not an option.
