Vadim Gritsus, M.D. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Gritsus and his staff! They have done everything in their power to make me feel relaxed, and to help me through this process.
Hi Everyone:
My name is Elisa, and I have been overweight all of my life. I began investigating gastric bypass back in 1999, but I was too frightened to move ahead with it. All of that changed in the summer of 2005. I weighed 350 lbs. I was miserable. I had tried every diet known to man, spent $1,000's of dollars on Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, e-Diets, and LA Weight loss, and I was bigger than ever.
I met with Dr. Gritsus in October 2005, and decided to move ahead. I had my surgery on 1/10/06. It has been a roller coaster ride (ulcers, emergency surgery for a perferated ulcer) but I have no regrets!! Life is good!!
I just completed my first 5K race!!! I was slow, but I ran the whole thing! My time was 41:23, and I finished 131th out of 149 runners (I didn't finish last!!).
I have already signed up for 2 more races this summer, and hope to add a few more. I just can not believe that I am now a runner!!
This year I danced tap and jazz - the costumes were unfortunate, but I had an awesome time. Well, one of the stage moms came up to me while I waited to take the stage for my tap routine. She paid me the highest compliment - she told me she noticed me during my jazz routine because I danced with such joy, that she couldn't take her eyes off of me. I blushed and thanked her, but her words brought tears to my eyes.
Dancing had always been a dream of mine, but at 360 lbs, it just wasn't possible. I promised myself after surgery, when I lost 100 lbs, I would sign up for dance classes. I reached that goal in September 2006. I always dance with a big smile on my face, because I am so greatful to be able to do it.
This is my second recital since my surgery on January 10, 2006. I hope to dance in many, many more
I recently began training to run a 5K in July!! I can not tell you how excited I am about this. I was a non-runner, all my life. If I was caught without an umbrella, I would suck it up, walk, and get wet. I dreaded the Presidential Fitness Challenge in school because they made you run a mile. I don't think I ever ran a mile - even when I was a youngster (I would always have to walk a lap or two).
So, I am proud to say, I can run two miles without stopping!! How cool is that!! I have a few weeks to build on my distance, and I am confident that I will make it!
Since my dance studio is closed this week for Spring Break, I decided to take a yoga class on Thursday night. Our yoga instructor told us that we were going to work on inversions, and I just groaned - I knew head stands / shoulder stands would be involved, and I wanted no part of it!! The last time I went to the Thursday night yoga class (about 6 months ago) we also worked on inversions. We have a shoulder stand chair thingy that you can use so that you are not putting pressure on your head. Well, the last time I went, I couldn't even get one leg off the ground using it!! I decided to try again - see if I could at least lift one leg off the ground. To my surprise, I was able to get into the shoulder stand!! Yah me! I can't believe that I could do it!! My instructor said that I had to do it three more times so that my body would remember - well I did it!!
I take tap and jazz classes, and we are currently working on our routines for the recital. My tap teacher decided she wanted some of us to do fan kicks, and those who can, to do cartwheels into splits! I have not done a cartwheel, or a split in at least 22 years! Well, Thursday night, I did about 5 cartwheels into splits! I am still about 6 inches off the ground, but with some stretching, I think I can get all the way down by June - LOL!!
