Thursday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Moving Right Along.....
posted on 1/8/08 1:11 pm
Well, I have passed my three month anniversary date with much gratitude to be here and doing so well.  The first 2 months were quite hard and touch and go at times, but I am thankful for a good turnout.  I had surgery on 9/26/07 and was released from the hospital on 9/30/07.  At the time I was released I was throwing up and could not hold down food or water very well.  I was re-admitted the very next day and was taken back to surgery for a second operation on 10/2/07.

They suspected I had a twisted bowel, but did not know.  As it turns out I had a genetic defect, a mal-rotation of the small intestine, which was preventing my food and water from going through as they should.  Apparently the initial surgery caused the problem to flare up in a way no one would have suspected.  So, I was left with a 10 inch open wound with a wound vac so it could heal from the inside out.  Almost immediately I was able to take in fluids that I was not previously able to.  With an uncontrollable amount of pain, an open wound, an elevated heart rate, and malnourishment which led to a PIC line and TPN, I was kept in the hospital for a total of 2 weeks.

Upon my discharge I made the 4 1/2 hour trip home and settled in for some healing.  I was off from work for another week, and then worked from home for another month until I was well enough to return to my office full-time.

I got rid of the wound vac on 11/9/07 and my wound finished closing all the way a week or so after that.  I returned to my love of showing dogs the week-end of Thanksgiving and was able to fit into a blessed size 16 clothes.  This was down from a 22 where I started at in July 2007.

My husband and I took our 2 1/2 year old son to Disney World for Christmas and I was able to enjoy everything and go, go, go with them both.  I only felt sick once during the entire trip and that was my own fault.  I think the turkey meat I tried I was not quite ready for.

I am now down to 169.6 pounds (highest weight of 242 and surgery weight of 200).  I am down to a size 14 jeans and a L-XL top - I seem to be losing from the bottom up.  I have more energy than I have in a long time and am feeling pretty good.  I ordered a home gym as a reward for my success so far and am looking forward to the next mini-goal reward of a manicure and gel nails.  I already bought a "goal" outfit to show dogs in which is a size 12 suit from Dillard's.  It was a bargin and I am almost in it.  I need about 5 more pounds to be in it comfortably!

This site has been a huge source of inspiration and sharing for me and I don't know what I would have done without it.
