Surgeon Testimonial

Erik Wilson, M.D.
First time I met Dr. Wilson was in a seminar. He was well spoken and very charismatic. I was excited to learn he offered the DS. I made my appointment the next morning, to get things started. The staff at UT Physicians are very impressive and so helpful with every single question. They made getting qualified for surgery alot less stressful than when I tried 5 years ago with another surgeon. rnDr. Wilson is a perfectionist and made sure I understood every detail of my surgery. rnI was his first DS patient and never once did I feel afraid that anything would go wrong. His track record with other bariatric surgeries and his confidence made me secure in my decision. His level of care for his patience is outstanding...even the nurses in the hospital raved about his exellence.rnHe is by far the best thing thats ever happened to me. rnHere I sit, 3 weeks after surgery and already my life has improved drastically. rnMy surgery weight was 395.rnI am at 372 as of this morning and my activity level is increasing more and more every day.rnI would rate Dr. Wilson 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, and a perfect 10.... he's the absolute best in my opinion, and I am extreamely lucky to have found him.

New Life
on June 24, 2009 4:42 am
Life is good!!   I'm starting my second year at San Jac. and should be getting my degree in the summer of 2010.   Last summer was a crazy ride... to crazy to even try and explain on here but but I'm POSITIVE there are those out there who understand completely!!  New found energy, dating, freedom, school, just living life for the first time was amaizing!    As I was comming out of my "Crazy" phase (shush yes I'm always crazy but not like that!  lol)  I lucked into meeting a wonderful man named Wes Cisco.   We met in January at a party... went out a few times and I was hooked.  I know we haven't known each other for years and years ....but we are now officially engaged!   I couldn't be happier and feel like the luckiest woman in the world!!   He's more than I ever dreamed of and soooo different from anyone else I've ever dated.  (this would be a good thing lol)    Anyway.... our plans are to tie the knot sometime in the spring or summer of next year... probably after I graduate.
I realized I hadn't posted anything in a while and thought I'd update a bit.   Life really is Grand!!
Oh I guess I could mention .... I guess I'm at goal?   I dunno ... I still feel like I have a tummy to lose but I know most of that is skin.  Maybe I'll work on 20lbs?   I'm bouncing between 165-170 ... wearing between a 4-8 in pants ... but still a large to xl top ... weird.
Goals and Plans.....
Graduate
Get Married
Get a JOB!!
Travel and make a million bucks
Get a new car anddddd.....
Get Plastics!!
Ok I think thats all .... I've rambled enough :)     Life really is good... ya know?!!

Trip to New York City!!
on July 29, 2008 11:47 am
Several WoWs on  this  trip!   First was the plane ride ... never EVER flew without needing a seat belt adapter!   It felt so nice to not be squished into a seat and have to have that embarassing moment of asking for the adapter.

My Mom went on a trip just like this right before my surgery and asked me to go but of course I couldn't.   I couldn't make it to my truck most days .. much less across the country!    I was so excited when I got the invitation again and was actually able to make it this time!    We saw everything... she walked my ass off!!    We went to the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Empire State Building, Time Square, and a Show!   If you get the chance to see Alter Boyz ... omg its funny .. GO!!!     That was by far the best part of the trip.    We rode the subway, taxis, a bicycle taxi and we walked ... omg did we walk!    LOL
I was most impressed that I did a pretty decent job of keeping up with my highly entergetic mother aka the energizer bunny!       We took on NYC and although it wore us out it didn't beat us down!    We left feeling we did everything a good tourist should do and then some!
Wonderful meals and miles of walking each day.... I didn't even feel guilty about the everything bagle with cream chease and sliced tomato for breakfast one morning because we walked it off well before noon lol.   HEY!  I was in NY!!!   I had to have a bagle!!  lol      Anyway the trip was incredible and I never could have done this before surgery.
Just one more thing to be grateful for!

OMFG!!!
on April 22, 2008 7:12 pm
My mom has a 2007 Yamaha 1100 V-Star in Black Cherry (oh so sweet color)
I was talking trash yesterday and told her she doesn't really need that bike and she should just give it to me for being "The Good Child"  (you would have to know my brother lol)
I was just shooting off my mouth playing with her!!!!!!!     She said "Your Right!"    "Tell you what ... when your able and when I find a new bike and it will be soon ... you can have this one"
I ALMOST FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She had already been thinking about this cause she is so proud of me for losing all this weight and actually having a life again.
I went today and practiced driving it around a parking lot and I haven't been on a bike since High School!!
I've been SOOO excited you can't even imagine!!!
I have to admit ... that bike is BEAUTIFUL and I can't wait till I can practice alittle more and feel confident enough to actually get it out on the road!     We are shooting for sunday but we'll see what the weekend brings!
I'm posting a pic of the year make and model but my new bike has lots of little extras like saddle bags and windshield .... nifty gadgets like that lol

My Story

I've been overweight my entire life!   I was over 100lbs in grade school and around 250 in high school.    I was always the funny girl and that saved me alot of teasing I suppose, because being fat never really bothered me untill around 10 years ago.
I started noticing there were things I couldn't do... like Amusement park rides, certain boothes in restarants ... things like that.
Well time went on and I continued to lose then gain (always with a bonus amount).    I finally got a job with insurance that said it would cover a bipass!   I was thrilled!    Went to the ceminar.. met with the doctor... started the diet process ... and was then disapointed
The insurance wanted 3-5 years of documented weight loss attempts ... and due to my lack of insurance I hadn't been to a doctor in years!
I was crushed and honestly I gave up.         Time passed ... and the weight piled on... a good 100 pounds.      Well that along with my arthritis made it impossible for me to continue working.
Soon my Doctor put me on disability which in turn resulted in my loss of job and insurance
As most of you know .. you have to be on disability for 2 years before Medicare kicks in ... lovely isn't it?
Well I did my time waiting and being housebound for the most part because it was just too painful to walk anywhere ... even out to my truck!
I was about 5 minutes away from being completely bed ridden!!!
Well as soon as my Medicare kicked in ... a friend drug me out to another WLS seminar.
That is where I met Dr. Wilson and he explained several surgeries ... including the Duodenal Switch (DS)!!!      This wasn't offered to me by the last Dr. I had seen!     To me, it was a no brainer!!   The results (on paper) seemed significantly greater and the risk was only slightly higher than the RNY!       Honestly at that point the risk could have been through the roof and it still would have appealed to me because I wasn't living anyways.
The next few months flew by ... I had to stop smoking and lose 8 whole pounds!   lol  I was 408 and he wanted me under 400 for surgery.
I did stop smoking (FINALLY!!!) and made it through the holidays and still lost my silly little 8 pounds!   lol in fact I lost 13lbs so pfftt !!!
On January 14th I weighed 395 and Dr. Wilson did his very first DS!!!!    He told me there was a posibility that he might not be able to get the whole proceedure done at one time... that scared me alittle because I was soooo ready for it to all be done.
When I woke up .. first thing I asked was "did he do the whole thing?"     I cried when they told me yes.... I cry now remembering.
Dr. Wilson Saved my life!!!
Now I'm on the DS ride of my life ... and if you can hang on tight .. your welcome to come along
