A good candidate
on July 28, 2008 11:10 am
After waiting for 6 weeks I finally saw the Surgeon on July 22nd. He felt  I would be a godd candidate for the Lap Band. He wants me to take 2 Nutrition classes, get a Psychological Evaluation, a cardiac evaluation (I have no heart problems so not sure why) and bloodwork done. He also wants me to get with my PCP and find something other than Voltaren to take for the pain. Plus I need to get with the Pain management Dr to get off of Lyrica. It seems the Lyrica causes weight gain.

I already had the Psychological Evaluation this week. She also said I was a good candidate and will send the info the Dr BAss ASAP.  She suggected we get together for a few more visits to come up with a plan to work on how to reduced the stress and pressures of life without  binge eating.  I had  the blood work done today and Thursday will be the first Nutrition class. I have the Cardiac evaluation scheduled for Aug 5th. I still need to  schedule the 2nd nutrition class. When the Surgeon's office has all the evaluations I will be able to see him again, get a surgery date, final insurance approval and attend the preop class. When I asked how many more weeks he stated about 6 to 8 weeks. So we are looking at a possible Sept surgery date.

In the mean time on July 17th I had three Thoracic Facet Joint Injections in my spine and have been finally able to do things for the first time in over 10 years. I still have some pain but not the knife stabbing, take away my breath kind of pain. I am walking about 6 to 9 minutes with 2 canes where as before I could barely walk 1 to 2 minutes. Instead of rolling around on the desk chair in the house I am now walking. I am   walking from the living room to the bedroom or laundry room without the canes.  I have been swimming and in the hot tub as I can finally lift my leg high enough to get up the stairs. I have taken day trips down to Fort Lauderdale and loving every minute of the drive. I am finally living and not just existing. I just hope and pray the pain does not come back as I will be even more depressed and upset if it does.
Till next time have a great journey!

Gone back to WW and Curves
on July 5, 2008 12:55 pm
I know I said I probably wouldn't post until I met with my WLS Dr. but since I joined WW and Curves in the last week I figured why not write about it.

Weight Watchers -  OMG how many times have I done this program over the past 40 years. I say 40 years as when I was 12 I was sent to a WW Camp in PA. I believe I weighed around 140 and came home after 2 months weighing around 120.  Of course the weight came back plus more as there were no food changes at home. I truly believe that during parent's day  at the camp they need to educate the parents as to what WW is all about and how  to make food changes at home to help their children keep off the weight.  Maybe now a days they do but  not back in 1968.
ok back to present day I joined June 26th weighing 353 and had my first week weigh in this past Thursday.  Not good,  as I really didn't follow the program. I didn't have the kinds of foods I needed as I was waiting for my disability check to arrive. So I debated do I go or do I stay home.  It took everything I had to go,  but I did I figured face the scale regardless. Surprise I released 1.6 pounds.  Not a whole lot but it was 1.6 pound less.

Curves - I found out that my Medicare advantage plan will pay for the registration and each month so I checked into one. Michelle was so nice and willing to work with me.  It turns out I need to get a form from the insurance company, have it signed by the PCP,(who I see on the 17th) return the form to the insurance company and then they will pay. But Michelle knew I needed to start the exercise now so she stated I could pay no registration fee and just pay for this month and by next month the insurance should be paying.  WOW! how nice of her. While there she helped me to try 10 of the machines. I was able to do 8 of them which is great. But I ran out of energy and still had 2 more to do. Michelle said when I come back on Tuesday we can try them first and then see about doing one circuit. I am going at around 10:30 which seems to be a slow time, which is great as it will take me at least an hour to complete one circuit and I will not hold any one up from getting to the machines.
Happy Journey till next time!
