The waiting game
on April 23, 2012 9:36 am
Met with my sugeon April 11th. We agreed on the Sleeve and he seemed knowledable and sensed I was firmly educated on all my options and what my insurance required. It's now time to play the waiting game. Just how long will it be is anyones guess. My surgeon noted in the mean time for me to do a doctor supervised diet for 6 months or until approval, which ever comes first. I sincerely hope I can move forward and have this finished before the end of 2012.

Baby Steps...
on April 16, 2012 6:21 am
So I begin my journey. A journey to health and happiness. So what brought me to this point? I am nearly 6 foot tall and currently 306lbs. I have never been one to be self conscious. I never saw myself as "FAT". Never had any medical problems. So how did I get here again?!?!?! Well obviously one can only carry so much weight on them before damaging the body. So slowly, over the last 5-10 years my medical issues have increased 100 fold. Most recently I broke my left ankle and tibia just walking. Yes, just walking. That was a sign, more like an alarm, that I needed to change my life. Also my dating life has been less then fulfilling.
Taking all this into account, I went to my first seminar in March 2012. I verified my insurance (BCBS TX) would pay for such a procedure and found a facility and surgeon in my network. I went ahead and completed my psych evaluation. Wednesday April 18th I have my first appointment with my surgeon.
I don't expect this to be an overnight approval but I am hoping I can have the Sleeve procedure done before the end of the year.
At the moment I have no expectations. I am both equally scared and excited.
