Surgeon Testimonial

Michael W. Johnell, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Michael Johnell is the most amazing Dr I have met to date. He has made me feel like i am his only patient and really takes the time to explaine everything to me in laymans terms. During my all day class, he came in and spoke to everyone and answered any questions we had and really was there for support. If you haven't chosen a surgeon yet and your in Colorado, I Highly reccomend him as your surgeon. The care program they have in place is amazing! They have classes for all areas of your journey from beginning, middle and forward on your journey. There is someone to answer any questions that arise 24/7. And the whole staff is nothing but respectful and caring for you and what your doing there.

A good day!
on November 16, 2009 12:27 pm

Well It's been a really rough weekend for me. I had one heck of a head cold that made me feel so horrible and so weak and my poor face felt like it got hit by a mac truck, but today i am happy to say I am feeling sooo much better.

I can tell my tummy is getting back to normal because i am eating just fine and I can tell i will be ready for my first fill by Dec 2nd! I am keeping within my range but i get hungry sooner than i should. I am doing 3 cups of protien and 3 or more cups of liquid but i have started to add an exter 1/2 cup of protien just to stay full. I wont add more than that because i don't want to gain weight, but i am drinking alot of water to help too.

Other wise i feel really good and have lost 30 lbs total since I started this whole journey. 8 of those lbs being since surgery. I am starting to see the difference in my hips more than anywhere and boy am I happy about that!

So for now doing great and looking forward to seeing the Family i have here in Colorado for Thanksgiving.  Just wish I could go home and see my parents. But I will be doing that next year so until then...... ( I'll be writing a letter)  or

Feeling back to normal
on November 11, 2009 10:05 am
Well it's been a couple of days since i last posted and I figured today would be perfect.

I am feeling back to my normal self pretty much now. Finally going potty normal, i have figured out the hungery and full feelings and sleeping is much easier now. The gas is gone from my shoulders and finally bought some Gas-X (my new best friend)

I am walking 30 min a day and feeling really good. I can pretty much do all my normal stuff except gotta watching the amount of weight i lift, but otherwise healing very well and am ready to start looking for a job. I haven't worked since July when I got laid of and hubby wants me to wait till first of year (i might ) Said to enjoy the holidays and fully heal then worry about work.  He has been there for me through all of this an is so very supportive.  He is a god send for me.

My fav thing to eat right now is jello, broth and protien smoothies. Doing great with the water and even able to take all my pills plus my vitamin supplements. I am so glad i got this operation and I would not change anything.

I have lost 2 lbs since surgery and I love knowing that every week i will step on the scale and see a reduction in my weight. That to me is the best feeling in the world.

Post-OP Appt today
on November 9, 2009 6:59 am
I am getting ready to see the Dr for my post-op appt today. I feel I did really well this weekend and can't wait to check in.

There are a few things I'm going to ask about. Like, "why do i have so much gas?" and The pain meds make me itchy, can i have a different kind. Otherwise it has been a great recovery and I'm ready to move to the next stage and that will be my new goal. To keep on track for the next 10 days with diet.

I'll post when i get back with my progress report.

The day after surgery
on November 6, 2009 8:27 am
Well I got to the hospital yest about 8:15 am and was checked in and being prepared for surgery. The staff at Northen Colorado med center in Greeley was awesome. Every single person their made me feel important and very well cared for.

I went into surgery about 10:15 and was back in recovery room by 11:15-11:30. Apon awakening they made sure I was very comfortable and told me everything I need to now for my new transition. I was taken to my recliner chair to get ready for my swallow test. After the swallow test, I came back to my recliner and got to have water, chicken broth and jello.

The only thing that hurt was the gas they put in you for surgery. My shoulders hurt badley and I was informed it would get better in 24hrs. It made it hard to take deep breaths and just was really un-comfortable. But I was told that walikng would help so I immmediatly got up  and started walking. And it did help somewhat.

Today I am up and about taking it slow but making sure I walk alot.  That is truly the key to getting better so Walk, walk walk!

I am feeling great today, taking n my fluids including protien water and jello and am very happy with my results and just the whole experience.
