colonoscopy today :(
on April 20, 2007 10:26 pm
so i had a colonscopy today , so last night i did the halflytley bowel prep with the 4 tablets, now i had this done pre-op and it was a peice of cake,  but this time around was a joke........i had pains in my stomach beyond belief as i drank that mix that i threw most of it up so i didnt drink it all and i told my gi doc he said it was ok, so they sedated me to do the procedure, i told my doc give me extra and he did when i woke up i was sooooooo drowsy even walkin i told my husband to hold on to me, i had this test done because last year i had ulcerative collitis as a result of taking to much clindamycin, but it seems as though that condition always comes back and only way to tell is with a colonscopy, so as i wait for the results until monday, i am still feeling dizzy from sedative which i had about 11 hours ago, go figure

for anyone who may be seeking a appeal letter!!! :)

To whom this may concern,

I wish to appeal your decision for denial concerning gastric bypass surgery to be done on March 20,2006 by Dr. Jonathan Wong at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.

My name is Stephanie Ryan-Jagroop and I suffer from a DISEASE called morbid obesity. I am 26 years old.  I have been overweight ALL of my life!  I don't want to live my life this way anymore.

I have been doing research on gastric bypass for the past 2 years now, and I know this is the best surgery for me.  I consider this surgery to be my last resort.  I know all about the do's and dont's before and after surgery.  I know the risks and benefits this surgery has to offer.  After the surgery I will adhere to the diet plan regimen.  I know what will happen to my body If I do not stick to the plan assigned to me  such as dumping syndrome, protein and vitamin deficiency and others. I have tried all other diets and failed; such as-

diet programs:
low fat
low carb
atkins
slim fast
weight watchers-also attended meetings
excercise is included in all weight loss atempts

diet pills:
xenical
meridia
hydroxycut
metabolife
various gnc powders and shakes

Any weight that I have lost in the past was gained back with extra pounds and just keeps on....

I currently stand at 5"3 and weigh 264 pounds with a bmi of 46.8= extremely morbidly obese

As time goes on I just gain more and more weight and my body can't handle this.

I currently suffer from-

-lower back pain
-physical activity is limited
-shortness of breath from minor exertion
-heartburn
-acid reflux(currently taking prevacid)
-pain in my feet and legs(currently have heel spurs)
-infertility
-irregular menstrual cycle

In addition-

-I don't want to be seen in public
-embarrased to meet people
-feel like i am a failure
-poor self-esteem
-lacking in self confidence
-embarrased to travel
-held back from doing things

Previously, my surgeon submitted a request for pre- authorization for the gastric bypass surgery, In the files sent were

A letter from my-

Nutritionist, Ms. Moore
Pyschologist, Dr. Maude
Pulmonary, Dr. goyal
Cardioligist, Dr. Tottonelly
G.I., Dr. Balik

I am asking that my case be reviewed as soon as possible.  I understand that as of now I have no co-morbidities, however if this weight problem of mine continues I will suffer from serious health risks, resulting in a shorter life span.

Please keep in mind that-

I have tried to lose weight many times unsuccessfully with nonsurgical measures

I am determined to lose weight to improve my health and quality of life

I am aware how my life will change after the operation

I am aware of the potential for serious complications, occasional failures, and dietary restrictions

I am well informed about the surgical procedures and the effects of treatment

I am committed to lifelong medical follow-ups

I currently joined a support group online at obesityhelps.com, I personally know 5 people who have had gastric bypass, and I also have great support from my husband, family, friends and co-workers.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter and if any questions should arise Please feel free to call me at

on March 10, 2007 6:02 pm

well i didnt update for feb,2007 so i will tell you what happened on 2-20 i was scheduled to have lap gallbladder, but when i was getting operated on my doc saw that i had a large internal hernia, so he stepped outside to speak to my husband and told him it needed to be repaired my hubby said ok, so my doc tried to do it lap but couldnt so he did it open, so i had a lap gallbladder and a open hernia repair when i woke up i was in pain beyond belief i asked for my doc and said why am i in soooo much pain and then he told me what he did i was so miserable i never wanted open surgery for the fear of infection(and i got one) and the scarring and healing, the lap incisons do not bother me but the open still hurts and it has been almost 3 weeks, i have not been back to work yet, hopefully next week, the pain meds are not working for me they constipate me also, so im not taking anything, im not sure if i have a incisional hernia now or if its just scar tissue, but i have this bulge near the bottom of teh incision and its hard so im worried i asked my doc last week and he said its scar tissue but he also told me at 3 weeks post op when i had pain on my left side that it was ulcers, it was probably the hernia all along.................... 100lbs lost and 35 to go

its been a long 6 months but well worth it
