Surgeon Testimonial

Timothy Hipp
Dr Hipp has been a Godsend. He exhibited extensive knowledge of the surgery and was supportive of my decision to choose RNY over lap-band. He's very easy to talk with, and has a gentle touch. I felt very comfortable with him, and enjoy his dry sense of humor as well.

Just spoke to Stephanie and she is doing well. She was a little sleepy but well. They ending up having to do an open procedure instead of laparoscopic so she will be in the hospital a little longer and she will talk to all of us as soon as she can!

4.5 more pounds gone & 2 month measurements
on March 26, 2007 3:17 pm
So I did manage to get to the hospital today and weigh.  I'm down another 4.5 pounds, being a grand total of 76.5 lost since surgery/114.5 lost since December.

My mom stopped by, and even tho it's a few days early, I figured while I had her here, I'd get her to help with my measurements.  They are as follows:

Neck  20 1/4     -1/4"
R forearm  14     -1/2"
L forearm  13 3/4     -1/2"
R bicep  19     -1"
L bicep  19     -3/4"
R wrist  8     -3/4"
L wrist  8 1/4     -1/4"
chest (below boobs)  54 1/2     -3/4"
chest  56 1/2"
waist  58     -1 1/2"
stomach/hips  66"
R thigh  32 1/2     -1 1/2"
L thigh  31     -2 1/2"
R calf  24     -1"
L calf  23 3/4     -1/2"

Second WOW moment
on March 26, 2007 5:44 am
Last Thursday I caught my reflection in the picture window at work while I was opening the store.  As I walked from the car to the door, I saw my profile view and was quite amazed at how much my stomach and rear end have shrunk.  I can't see it in the bathroom mirror, and I don't own a full-length mirror for obvious reasons.  It probably helped that I had on a new outfit that actually FITS and I don't swim in the shirt.  But for the first time in many years, I thought....wow I don't look half bad.  That's a huge accomplishment.

I think I'm going to head to the hospital today and weigh.  Will post and update my ticker if I do.

6 week post op visit
on March 14, 2007 11:56 am
Got my B-12 shot today, and Dr Hipp told me told me that it was official...I was not gonna die from surgery.  We all had a good laugh about that.  My incision is fully healed, and I'm clear to lift and do things as tolerated.  I was also  bumped up to a full Stage 3 diet.  That's pretty cool, now I just have to gather the courage to try different things.  Most things I've tried that aren't mushy sit really heavy in my pouch and make me uncomfortable, so I really don't like to eat.  I was also advised to begin weaning off of the protein supplements and get most of my protein through actual foods.  Again, this is a scary thing for me, and I'm sure will take a while before I will reach this stage.

Offically down 72 pounds since surgery, 110 total.  My next goal is to get under 50 BMI.  I go back to see Dr Hipp in 6 weeks, and would LOVE to have met that goal by then.  I need to kick up the exercise, and have been considering joining the gym.  Hopefully I'll buckle down and do that by the end of next week.

Personal, read at your own risk
on March 8, 2007 10:12 am

Many years ago, I began to find it difficult to clean myself after a BM.  My back could only contort so far around, and my arms were either shrinking or my butt was expanding (and we all know which was the culpret).  One day at my grandmother's, I noticed a back scrubber in her shower.  It had a plastic/resin handle with a little rounded hook on the end so it could be hung up.  I grabbed to use as a tool for cleaning, and it worked perfectly.  That back scrubber has been a crutch for me for probably 4 years now.  I couldn't use the restroom when I wasn't at home because I could no longer reach, and couldn't carry that scrubber around with me.  So, if I was out and had the urge, I had to turn around and go back home.  Or if I was at a family member's house, I'd have to excuse myself and leave early.  I eventually found something to use while at work, too, so that alleviated that problem.
Obviously this became a big issue with me.

Well, yesterday I went to the movie to see Wild Hogs.  It was my first trip to the movies since my husband and I separated 3 1/2 years ago.  Right in the middle of it, my tummy started acting up, and I had to run to the bathroom.  I was in such a panic...what would I wipe with?!?!  I sat there for a few minutes trying to brainstorm and figure out how on earth I was going to get clean.  Then I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a go and try to wipe.  Praise God, I was able to!  I'm no longer a slave to my scrubby....I CAN WIPE!!!

Under 400!
on March 7, 2007 2:27 pm
I stopped by the hospital this afternoon to use their scale.  I don't see my surgeon until next Wednesday, so wanted to check in and see how I was coming along.  Lo and behold, the scale registered below 400.  It's all happened so fast, and I really wish I could see the 100 pound loss, but I don't.  I feel better, though, and can walk much better than I did previously.

Current weight:  398.6

Measurements - One Month Out
on March 3, 2007 4:39 am
Well, since I was a dork and didn't take any measurements beforehand, I decided that measurements at one month out would be sufficient.  I didn't even take pictures on the day of surgery, which I should have done, but in all the excitement, it's something that slipped past me.

Anyway, current measurements:
Neck - 20 1/2
R forearm - 14 1/2
L forearm - 14 1/4
R bicep - 20
L bicep - 19 3/4
R wrist - 8 3/4
L wrist - 8 1/2
chest below boobs - 55 1/4
waist - 59 1/2
chest - 60+
hips - 60+
R thigh - 34
L thigh - 33 1/2
R calf - 25
L calf - 24 1/4
