Surgeon Testimonial

Jack F. Rutledge, M.D.
I first met Dr. Rutledge about 4 years ago when I went to a WLS seminar and I thougt that if I went thru with the surgery..he was going to be the one to do it. There were three other doctors in the seminar with him, but I knew he was the one for me. Fast forward four years and we meet again at a weight loss seminar. He was the only surgeon there but I had made up my mind four years before. I turned in my paper work and requested a consulation appointment with his office. Went to the appointment on December 14, 2006 and I thought he was little distant. Did not feel really comfortable with him after that visit. But I talked it over with some friends and they said his bedside manner was not as important as his credentials. Then one of my friends made me reallize a few things that could have influenced my judgement. 1) I was scared 2) I was PMSing 3) I was scared!! 4) a little personal stress going on at the time. So I knew that the main problem was ME on that visit. His office was very thorough in getting my paper work submitted to my insurance company and I got approval in exactly 10 business days and had a surgery date three weeks later. I had to have one more office visit with Dr. Rutledge and he wanted to met one of my family members. My mom was not really wanting me to have to surgery and did not want to go to visit with me. But she came and I was afraid that would be a disaster but you know what....my mom and aunt both got along great with Dr. Rutledge..which is saying a whole lot. They normally do not get along to well with Dr's. :-)rnrnSo on the day of my surgery I had a few friends and family along with me and he was even great to my friends. My friends Monica and Michelle were back in the surgery prep area with me and Monica called him Dr. McDreamy and he just laughed. He noticed right away that my mother was not present and he went out into the waiting area to talk to her before he started my surgery!! How is that for concern and courtesy? I would give him a five! !(I work for a call center and 5 is the highest score you can get). He came to check me over the next day and I was cleared to go home. I will have a follow up appointment next Thursday and go from there. I think Dr. Rutledges bedside manner and surgical competence are both excellent!

Main Board Challenges
on May 25, 2008 8:27 am
Boy have the last few months been difficult for me.  I am now 16 months post op and my weight loss has pretty much stopped and it has been up and down for the last four months.  I am now 4 lbs heavier than I was in January aound my anniversary date and my lowest weight was 149 (after doing the 5 day pouch test but I gained back up to 153 right after I started back on solids) and now I am at 169.....that is 16 pounds up in like two weeks....

And I have tried to do three of the challenges on the main board and you know what...I have not met my goal either time! That is so not cool.  I was only trying to lose 5% of my body weight each time and I gained weight with each challenge....so of course I am not going to the the 4th of July challenge because it is very discouraging to not meet a posted goal.  But I am still striving to reach my mini goal of losing that 5% and once I loose that amount, I will be striving to lose the next 5% and then the next 5% until I reach my goal weight!

This is definitely a journey that lasts a life time and it is now all about making healthier decisions.  And that is the hard part.  The first year was a breeze and then it like I woke up and I was so out of control.

Well my first 5% to loss is equal to 8.45 pounds....so I will keep you posted on my progress!

Happy Mothers Day!!
on May 11, 2008 6:27 am
Today is mothers day it has started out wonderful!! Yesterday my daugther took me to the movies and today she is taking me out to eat at my favorite place...Kanpai of Tokyo!  Can't wait for my chicken and grilled zucchini!! yummy.  My boyfriend found me an compact ellyptical machine on clearance at Wal-mart and bought that for me, he still has to assemble it though.  So I came in to work to use the gym and got in 30 minutes on the ellyptical here, and worked on my arms and obliques with free wieghts.  I am going to head back home and do my "bikini boot camp" work out from spark people and then get ready for to go visit my mom's church for mothers day.  She is always trying to get ppl to come to visit with her so she will be surprised.  I don't go that often because her pastor does not keep my attention at all. lol  Also today I am working towards getting back on track with my eating.  I have been grazing and eating junk food all the time lately and it shows on the scale and how I feel.  So immediately after I worked out, I came into my department to mix up a protein shake and guess what, I was being nosey and opened the honey baked ham box and found it load with cookies!! I picked one up and took a bite and then I thought about the fact that it was so not worth it.  I spit out the part I bite and threw the rest away.  But as if that were not enough, I had a take 5 bar in my desk drawer that my boss had given me the other day and  I had full intentions of that being my breakfast...I took it out and was about to open it and guess what?  I put it back where my boss kept the others she had!  So those are two none scale victories for me already this morning!  I have less than 20 pounds to go before reaching my goal and I will stop self sabotaging and get on track!! See you later with my weekly weigh in!
