Well it has been exactly one week since surgery. The operation took about an 1:15-1:30. I have to be honest, while in the recovery room I asked my wife what the f### did I do to my self. The pain I felt was horrible (I thought they had switched to an open procedure). The first day I slept and walked mostly. I couldnt pee until 7pm that night. They kept telling me they might have to insert a cath. They also wanted me to release some gas. I told them I was burping alot but they said it's not the right end. My best friend became the morphine pump. Everytime I pushed it (no more than 1 time every 5 minutes) it caused me to get drowsy. After the first day I only used it to get some sleep. As the days passed the pain became less and they gave me a new best friend, loritab. The third day I pressed my pump once and used the loritab whenever the pain was to much to take. I had a wow moment. I finally passed gas. I have never seen people give high fives over gas before. They kept me an extra day to get my insulin requirements in check ( I was on an insulin pump).
When I left the hospital saturday I went to my son's basketball games (1:00pm and 5:00pm). At the first game a friend asked if I regret having the surgery. I told him about the recovery room and told him everything has been positive since. My first blood sugar at home was a 213, but since then it has ranged from 69-141. I havent weigh myself yet. I will do it on saturday.
