Surgeon Testimonial

Alex Argotte, M.D.
So far he's been wonderful. But I've only met with him once...his assistant Cleo has seen me other times. She's great!!! A very upbeat young lady that could blow away on a windy day she's so tiny. (can't wait to feel and look thin!!!)

Congrats on your surgery!! I hope you've had an easy time. You did so great pre-op, I'm sure your hanging just as tough now. I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon! You're in my thoughts and prayers. Loralea

Stitches out today
on September 6, 2007 6:25 pm

Stitches out no problem.  My good news is I lost 21 lbs. from my visit last week on Tuesday to today Thursday.  Can you believe it...9 days 21 lbs down!!!!  Everything is going well for me.  I have no regrets.  I'm feeling better each day.  Doctor gave me the ok to start riding my bike today.  I prefer that to walking.

The weight is falling off...
on August 30, 2007 6:55 pm

Everyday the scale goes lowerand I'm seeing numbers in the 260's already.  Remembering my highest weight of 320 back in April...I'm thrilled.  And I'm only 9 days out so far.  I hope the next phase of my diet will boost my energy/metabolism and keep me moving down the losing road.

Today we went shopping at Sams Club..I kinda over did it because I slept in the car all the way home on the 45 minute ride.   We walked around almost an hour and a half. I came home and slept in the recliner for 2 more hours too...lol.

After the napping I cooked supper for my family and sat to watch them eat as I slowly ate SF popsicles.  It doesn't bother me that much really.  The weightloss incentives are enough for me.

I can't wait to get to the doctor and see how much I lost next week.

Drain tube is OUT!!!
on August 28, 2007 4:05 pm
Well , thanks to my new friend Sheila and her calming words,  that procedure was easy and I won't fear it if I ever had to do it again.  It took a few seconds and it was out.  I feel 10 times better today.  The drain tube must have created a lot of my pains.  Last night about 3am I woke up with that terrible side pain that I've heard so many speak of.  My husband got up with me.....it made my cry the pain was so bad.  I took a pain pill but lay in pain until 5:30 till I finally went to sleep again.  (too bad the alram went off at 6..ugh) So needless to say I will be very tired and sleep tonight hopefully.  I have not had the side pain after getting the tube out today and I hope not get it again.

I saw the Tami at the doctors ofc. today, she had her surgery last Tuesday like me.  I was glad to hear that they released her Friday after I went home.  However...she said she didn't have a good weekend.  She was having trouble drinking and keeping it down.  I'm glad those problems havent started for me.  I hope Tami gets better!

Starting weight in April and my hightest ever was 320.  Today I weighed 282.  I am so excited to watch the weight drop off now.  I walked a lot today.  My husband and I walked the perimeter of our large back yard.  We also walked through a store.  At my appointment today the doc said no more than 30 minutes of walking (intervals)  without good rest between.  I won't argue.  I follow this diet like a book.  I

I talked to the dietician today.  She went over my Phase 2 diet which starts next Monday.  Here's the list of exciting foods for me:

Tuna (can make a salad with FF Mayoand blend it)
Canned Ckn
FF SF Yogurt
Cottage Cheese
SF Popsicles
SF Pudding
SF Cool Whip
And of course all the clear liquids that I'm on now to try to get my 64 ozs.

I will be on that Phase for about 30 more days I guess.

All in all...I'm very happy with this whole process so far.  I'm glad the worst is over.  I'm so excited to see what I'll feel like next summer.

Post-op
on August 26, 2007 1:49 pm
I first took the time to read all my friends notes.   Did we have the same procedure?  LOL....I feel like crap....so those of you who are out and about walking in the park etc...I salute you!!  I can barely do anything...lol.   I went in the hosp on Tuesday morning (545am I checked in)  The whole day was a blur.  I didn't do much besides sleep.  I was up and out of bed Wed. after they removed the cath. though.  Slowly increasing my walks down the hospital halls.  I was extremely disappointed in the care at our hospital.  Poor staffing was the main ingredient.  I was not allowed anything by mouth until Friday 6am (after you pass gas, which I did on Wednesday by the way) and that was ice chips to start with.  At about 8am they brought 2 oz of chn broth.  I was able to get that down but it caused me to cough a lot because it was too salty.  I continued walking and drinking water all morning.  Lunch was a tray with about 2 oz of beef broth. (yummy)  I was formally told of my discharge Friday afternoon.  I spent the day up walking and talking to another post op RNY 2 doors down from me.  It was nice to have somesome to share the experience with first hand.  Her name is Tami and I told her about this site, I hope she visits.  I had the most discomfort from all the needles.  Between blood tests and the IV my arms are a bruised up mess.  I do not recall reading about anyone else having to take blood thinner shots after home post-op (mine are for 20 days), is this something you had to do?  I also do not recall reading any post-ops on diabetes.  My sugar went to 289 the first day.  My norm pre-op was under 100 for quite some time.  They told me at the hosp. that this is common from the surgery stress etc.  I had to get insulin shots the first couple of days.  But I can proudly announce I was back to normal when I left the hosp on Friday and they even discontinued my Actos Plus for my diabetes.  I checked my sugar today and it was 75...with no meds.  YEA!!!!  But what else could happen with water and sugar free popsicles?  lol.

I also noticed a lot of you are eating yogurt, cottage cheese and other soft foods already.  This is not allowed until 10 days out of the hosp. with my doctor.  So its clear liquids for me still.  I do not mind because I don't feel hungry at all.  But lucky you!

I'm supposed to go in Tuesday to have the drainage tube removed.  Is this something you all had?  I didn't read about that either.  Besides Sheila from my friends list.  I'm so nervous to have it pulled out...what a BIG BABY I am.  The doctor said to take a pain pill 1/2 hour prior to my appt.  to make it easier on me.

All and all I don't know how I feel yet because I don't feel back to normal yet.  I'll be happy by my 1 month I hope.  I still have drain tube removal and my filter removal.  I just want to get through this.  I hate needles...UGH!!!

Time to get up and walk around.  I will post more soon.  Thank you for caring and sharing!!!

My Story

After being a member and reading about so many people over the past few years, I'm finally taking the time to input all of my info. I hope to find this site as a method of support as I continue this journey.

I'm 45 yrs young as of July 29 2007.  I'm married to a wonderful man.  He retired from his job in Feb. and retired from the military (reserves) 2 weeks ago.  So we are both stay at home parents now to our 5 adopted children.  These 6 people are the strength and motivation to my steps toward WLS.  I want so badly to be a more active part of the childrens lives and be a role model in the area of fitness to them.  "WHICH I AM NOT" yet.

I didn't really have a weight problem until I was 29.  I slowly crept from 140.....to 180. I stayed there for 2 years and then boom...up over 200 and kept climbing.  I was diagnosed with PCOS around that time which I think started most of this.  3 years later Hypothyroid.  Then diabetes.  And high blood pressure. Then high Cholesterol.  Then Sleep Apnea......and I currently sleep in a recliner with a CPAP.  Yes I am miserable.  I so badly want to get to bed...lol.  I have had back surgery back in the 90's and since gaining this weight it's made it too unbearable to lay down.  I know this surgery will make all or at least most of these things go away.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.  God Bless all  of you!!
