Surgeon TestimonialBrant Oelschlager, M.D.Dr. Oelschlager is GREAT. This is my second time seeing him for RNY and he truly cares. The program to me has got better since I 1st seen him. I know I am good hands. The program is structured and offers great pre-op and after-care to individuals that want it. My surgeon is a young doctor with a winning personality and good bedside manor. The surgery has been explained to multiply times and then he followed up to make sure I completely understood. I would reccommend.

Hi all. Im Sunny. Im 35 and a fat. I had WLS(gastric bypass) on 10/28/08. My highest weight (I think) was 440, which was a couple of years ago. I lose and gain weight. I have PCOS. I am down to 360, right now. I also have Fibromyalgia, so I am in more pain, then the norm. The 1st week post op , I over did it. The 2 week I slowed down, but still did to much. I was following what I have read on OH and I over compensated. My husband has me grounded. I have to heal from the WLS and FMS symptoms after the surgery.
This is my second attempt at weight loss surgey. I was approved before and went to the consult and was scared off. Long story. We are newlyweds. My hubby had a lap bypass before I met him. I have love and support now. I went for it!!!!!!

AFM: Went to 1 yr WLS check up yesterday. Doing really well, I was told and that I can tweak my diet, geared towards pregnancy. I have been having issues with having my period. When I dont have my period, I gain a few pounds or I dont loose weight. I have to make sure I have period every month.

My Story
I wanted to give all my weight loss story before and after in hopes it will help someone dealing with some of the same issues. Here is my before and after.
In 2000, i was diagnosed by a wmns clinic in a local tramua hospital. I had the usual weight gain, extremely long periods. The docters and/or nurse practioners were designed to say you are "fat" and lose weight and that my periods will regulate on there own. Never happened. After continous visits, I was given birth control pills and that didnt work. Then in June 2000, I almost given up, when a new Intern said I should take more blood tests, because a new syndrome was discovered. My blood tests with other symptoms led to my diagnosis of PCOS. Well The Intern seemed to be well read and rounded in her training, so she suggested that i take the depo-provera shot.
The Depo-Provera shot was the worst mistake I ever made. I gained another 155 lbs and I was taking anti-depression meds, which made the weight gain worse. I went from 155 to 310, within 7 months. I have never been able to get down to a normal weight ever again.
My mother then tells me, that she was wondering how my "blood thing" was going? When I was younger, I was sickly. Come to find out I have a Autoimmune defiency disorder. So I found out why I was sick into 2nd trimester, I found out why i miscarried. Well combined with the PCOS, I felt very down. I have had no live births, but have been pg 5 times. So in 2000, I had terrible body pain and migraine headaches. Well what I thought was migraine headaches. I went to see a therapist, because I felt depressed. I took anti-depressant medication(I think it made it worse). Well 2-3 weeks after the last drs visit, I began to go down hill quickly medically. I went to spleep at 7p and woke the next day completely wet in my bed. I had a high fever and neck was killing me, I was dizzy. My mothers drs ofc was near so I went there. It was a bad experience. The dr told me that there is nothing wrong with me, because he noticed on chart that I was taken Depression meds. Well I went hope, my fever jumped from 101 to 104 within hours. I had Mengutis. I almost died because of a dr with bias. So women what I am telling you is "Make sure you reserch your doctors." use metworking from friends and neighbors. Dont feel that you are compromising there privacy, because you check up or in on them. You are the one that matters. Not the dr. The doctor will take insurance and cash from you and blow you off if you let it. I hope by telling this little store it helps someone.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 01, given metaformin. Here is the story: I was in drs ofc and my primary doctor is having concerns about the rapid weight gain and sugar levels, when a female doctor strolls down the hall. She actually double-taked and rush into the room, asking if I was having periods. I was a little taken aback at the questioning, because I had endured in silence for so long( after going thru miscarriages and false hopes). She asked to check under my arms and groin area. My regular docter and the woman docter were gone for about 30 mintues. I could here their conversation in pieces. She told him to grab his medical book. She eventually told me I have some good news and bad news. The good was that I could take a medication that will help with the symptoms I had, the bad was this condition is PCOS and it can get worse. I had IR very bad with the darkening of the skin. I had hirituism so bad. Yet, the hair on my head was not growing. After taking metaformin for 5 1/2 months I had a period and never looked back. :) It was my 1st period in 3 1/2 years. I felt ill and alive at the same time.
In 2002, my doctor signed me up for WLS at my current program. I was on the list for 3 1/2 years before I was even called, then after talking to a social worker over the phone. I was not ever called again. It got old very quick, especially after i did all the pre-op testing. According to the new social worker, the old social worker didnt do anything with my case. So I fell inbetween the cracks. So I had my PCP sign me up again. I had a phone interview on 7/02/07, then I was called for a seminar in January for 2/21/08. Then I had a consultation appt for 4/14/08. Then on 6/23/08, had a appt with my surgeon and nurse practioner. I had completed all the pre-op tests that I was required to do, since I had completed them before. This time I had to only do 3 tests. Yeah! My next appt was 8/06/08 and it was counted as a pre-op test, with the nurse practioner. I signed surgery papers and got weighed again. I was told that I will only lose 33.3% of my body weight, which was a discouragement to say the least, because that would only bring me to 250lbs. I took it in stride, especially after reading profiles on OH. I was called on 8/21/08 with a surgery date of 10/28/08.
I had Lap RNY on 10/28/08. I was quite sick after I was released from hospital. The surgery went very well. I over did it, because 10 days after surgery was my 35th birthday. Oops! Then I had a fibromyalgia flare-up and a few other issues. So my recovery, the 1st 6 weeks was hell to say the least for me. I feel great now. I am a little over 3 months out.
My hair is starting to fall out. Shedding is more acurate. I joined Curves about 10 days ago. I use my Wii Fit and I am walking my doggy around the neighborhood. My life has changed and I am hoping for the best for me and my hubs now. Eventually I would like to have kids and then get plastic for my fat body.
