Surgeon Testimonial

John George Zografakis
I WAS REFERRED TO DR. ZOGRAFAKIS (DR. Z) BY ANOTHER ONE OF MY DOCTORS. I AM SO GLAD FOR THE REFERRAL. I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT DR. Z AND HIS TEAM. THEY ARE TOTALLY AWESOME. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A DOCTORS OFFICE THAT ACTUALLY TOOK TIME TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING INVOLVED AND ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT ME. EVERYTHING FROM START TO FINISH IS WELL ORGANIZED AND YOU GET COMPLETE SCHEDULES OF ALL TESTS. MY SURGERY WAS ON JULY 17, 2006. I RECEIVED THE UPMOST CARE FROM DR. Z AND DEBBIE (CASE MANAGER) WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL. THEY ARE SO HONEST AND LET YOU KNOW EVERYTHING TO EXPECT ALONG THE WAY.

2 1/2 yrs after GBS
on February 7, 2009 4:31 pm
OMG!! The time has flown by so fast. I just went today for my bloodwork before my checkup with Dr. Z. I hope all is well with it. I know not all is well with me. I feel like a complete and total failure. I did a lot of research on GBS before deciding on having it. I knew it was going to be rough for me to keep the weight off. I always had a problem thru the years being a yo-yo dieter. I also have emotional tendencies of overeating. I discussed all these issues with the doctor and my phsycologist. My physc really thought I was ready and I would be able to handle everything. Well... here I am, like I said a complete failure. I have gained about 40 pounds back. I never knew that was possible. I don't know what happened! I feel so ashamed! I almost cancelled my appointment with my doctor, but I know I need to go and face him. I need his support (along with a lecture). All I know is, I don't want to be like I was prior to surgery. I felt so good when I lost 107 pounds. I am trying to relive that feeling and get back to losing these extra pounds I put on. Also, I need to get back on here more often.

Finally hit the Century Club
on May 12, 2007 6:27 pm
One day before Mother's Day. I have given myself a gift. I finally hit the 100 pounds lost mark. I feel great and know I will continue to lose, even though those darn plateaus interrupt. I need to put a new photo on here. I have always been funny about getting my picture taken.

Jan. 19, 2007- 6 months post-op
on January 20, 2007 5:45 pm
I don't know why I never started writing in this blog until now. But anyhow, I had my 6 month post-op checkup on Jan. 18, 2007. I have lost 81 pounds in 6 months. I am very happy with that. My labwork indicated a Vitamin D deficiency. The doctor said it is very common to have this at 6 months out from surgery. I feel great and the most noticable weight loss I can tell is in my face.

I had most of my weight in my stomach and it still is big. The doctor says I will need a tummie tuck. I don't know about that....we'll see if I can live with the extra skin or not. Between the cost and not wanting another surgery, I'll have to wait and see in about a year.

My Story

I was thin until about 5th grade. That is when I started gaining weight. OMG, I hated getting weighed in gym class. I remember being 132 lbs. I was the biggest girl in the class. I kept gaining weight through my school years. I started dieting somewhere between 16 and 17 years of age. Since then I have yo-yo dieted until my GBS on July 17th, 2006.

I am married to a wonderful man. We have a 25 year old son, 5 year old granddaughter, and a 22 month old grandson. Our 2 dogs and 1 cat round out the family. I love...love...love my dogs. My 11 year old is a lab/basset mix and my 5 year old is a yellow lab. The cat is about a year old. She is the cat from Hell! We have lots of fun with the kids and animals.

So anyhow, about my GBS, I had know a couple of co-workers that had it done with good results. I had been thinking about it for a couple years before making up my mind to go through with it. It was not an easy decision, but my health was starting to go and I wanted to be around for awhile longer. It was the best decision I have ever made and I would do it all over again.
